Bravo just can't get itself out of Orange County. The network that's already brought us The Real Housewives of Orange County — and its countless spinoffs — is preparing a new series about "hip and stylish" 18- to 25-year-olds in the OC. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Bravo wants folks who are independent yet still have "an 'involved' relationship with their parents." Cast members could be "attending college, finding their first apartment, starting a new business, still living at home, moving in with a significant other, or recently married or 'living an alternative lifestyle.'" (You know the producers are rooting for some alternative lifestyles.)No offense to the actual Orange County, but mining the wealth of the OC for entertainment purposes just strikes me as very 2003. Still, some good stuff has come out of there, so I'm wondering: what do you think is the greatest show or movie to come out of Orange County?Source

The WB is Back — Online

Who didn't love at least one show on The WB? Back in the day, it was the one network that spoke to my generation, with shows like Dawson's Creek, Felicity, and Gilmore Girls all reaching the ranks of must-see TV. But ratings dropped over the years, and in 2006, The WB and and UPN merged into the new CW; The WB was no more.

Until today, that is. As of now, the network is back as The WB.com, with full episodes and full seasons of favorite WB shows (and Warner Bros.-produced shows that aired on other networks). At its launch, the lineup includes the whole first season of Veronica Mars, 10 episodes of The OC, and a sampling of episodes from Friends, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Gilmore Girls, among others.

The site's also loaded with special features for folks who like to make their own videos, including a clip maker called the "Wblender," and a bunch of quizzes and games (I'm a little embarrassed to admit I just killed some time playing The OC Memory Match, which is just an online version of the childhood game Memory but with pictures of those pretty, pretty Orange County kids). Variety Women's Impact Report: Stephanie Savage

Variety has issued its annual Women's Impact Report, highlighting women who have made an impression at all levels of entertainment. Just like last year, the list includes executive powerhouses, household-name performers, and lesser-known talents. Over the next couple of weeks, I'll be spotlighting some of the women whom I find particularly noteworthy. Today's pick: producer Stephanie Savage.

Josh Schwartz gets most of the credit for The OC and Gossip Girl, but Savage, his co-producer, should get a ton of credit for Schwartz being a phenom in the first place. As the Variety profile points out, she was working for McG's production company when she "plucked Josh Schwartz from obscurity" and gave him a chance to run The OC.

That move made Schwartz a household name, but Savage has stayed more behind the scenes. Still, it gave her a boost as well: With Schwartz's help, she segued into writing, and now she carries a lot of the weight for Gossip Girl when Schwartz is looking after Chuck. Okay, so this one's not so much to rent as to buy: the entire collection of DVDs from The O.C.'s four-season run can now be purchased in one massive collection — just in time for Chrismakkuh. The set includes the show's 92 episodes on 28 discs and two discs of bonus content.

Right now, Josh Schwartz is one of the busiest guys in television. The creator of "The OC" has two must-watch shows on the air this fall, "Gossip Girl" on the CW and "Chuck" on NBC. At the TCA press tour this summer, he took some time to talk with me about teen shows, James Bond and the wonders of Rachel Bilson.

So, big year for you.
Yeah, it's been a big year. The end of "The OC" and two new shows — it's been a pretty exciting and emotional year.

Let's take "Gossip Girl" first. How did the idea come about to grab those books and work with them?
Those books were at the CW. And then from the CW, I got a call about them, and I read the first one, and I said, "You know, this could be something really great." And I called Stephanie [Savage, his co-creator and former "OC" writer/producer] and I said — I was already developing "Chuck" at the time — and I said, "If you'll do this with me, I'm all in." And so she was down. So I read the books. They have this crazy following, and it seemed like a great opportunity. And I also liked the idea of doing a show like this at the CW, at a time where there weren't a lot of these kind of shows out there. It reminded me of the glory days of the WB when I was in college.

Is there a heritage that you see for where "Gossip Girl" came from?
Definitely — those early years of "Dawson's," "Felicity," "Buffy," that whole period of stuff. "The OC" was definitely a part of that tradition as well.

Where did "Chuck" come from?
Chris Fedak, whom I co-created the show with, we went to film school together at USC. He pitched me the concept, the idea of an average guy getting secrets downloaded into his brain. I thought it was a really cool idea, and I thought it could also be really funny. And I had been wanting to do something that had some genre elements to it after "The OC." The first stories I ever wrote as a kid were, like, James Bond stories in my journals in summer camp, so I've always loved that world. I also really wanted to write about people in their 20s and what they're going through, but it's really hard to do a show about people in their 20s. It becomes a lot of navel-gazing, people complaining about their lives. But if a guy in his 20s is complaining about his life because he was almost killed by a ninja the night before, now you've got something.

"Gilmore Girls" isn't the only long-running show saying goodbye this season. "The King of Queens" wrapped up nine years on the air on Monday, and "7th Heaven" completed its 11-year run on Sunday. "The O.C." ended after four seasons earlier this year, and NBC isn't bringing "Crossing Jordan" back for a seventh season. Movie Preview: Adam Brody, In the Land of Women

I was sort of starting to hate "The OC" by the time it went off the air, but it did leave me hoping that Adam Brody gets more work. He's probably not the world's most versatile actor, but I find his laissez-faire hipster demeanor hard to resist.

So, I'm curious about In the Land of Women, the first feature from writer and director Jon Kasdan, whose brother Jake also has a new movie, The TV Set. On paper, the premise sounds a bit Garden State: After getting dumped by a movie star, Carter Webb (Brody) decides to move to Michigan care for his grandma (Olympia Dukakis). As he straddles that vexing line between mature adult and immature 20-something, he's charmed by two women across the street, including a sassy mom (Meg Ryan) and her teenage daughter, Lucy (relative newcomer Kristen Stewart). "The OC" Returns — on Cable

Until last week, I was only vaguely aware of Soapnet, but if you're a fan of "The OC," it might be time to get the obscure cable channel on your lineup. Starting tonight,
Soapnet is adding the recently canceled teen drama to its regular programming, which includes evening rebroadcasts of traditional soaps like "All My Children" and "Day of Our Lives," as well as reruns of "Melrose Place" and Beverly Hills 90210."

"The OC" kicks off tonight with the pilot, which airs at 6 p.m. Eastern/Pacific, and continues on subsequent Mondays. When I look at photos from the first episode, I can't believe how young everyone looks, so it will be fun to go back to the beginning. This evening also marks the Soapnet premiere of "One Tree Hill." Hilariously, the channel is marketing the show pairing as "pretty people, pretty messed up." Check the web site to see if the channel is available in your area.

This Season's Crazy TV Engagements: Where Are They Now?

During one wild week in January, four different couples from my favorite TV shows got engaged. It's been a while now, so in honor of Engagement Week, I thought I'd check back in on those crazy kids to see how they're doing now.

George and Callie, "Grey's Anatomy"

This was the proposal you thought was the most ridiculous. Things started off OK for the pair, who eloped to Vegas, but their return to Seattle Grace wasn't so smooth. George realized he didn't know Callie that well and started to doubt his decision; Callie grew frustrated with George always succumbing to the opinions of his "weird and judgy friends." After a blowout fight, George slept with his best friend, and now they've sworn to keep it a secret from Callie. Something tells me this isn't going to end well.

"The OC" and "Grey's" Music Guru Gets Her Own Label

Alexandra Patsavas is known for getting songs by little-known indie acts — including Death Cab For Cutie and Imogen Heap — onto very well known TV shows like "The OC" and "Grey's Anatomy." Now, the music supervisor behind so many influential TV soundtracks is forming her own record label.

As reported today by Reuters, Patsavas just signed a deal with Atlantic Records to launch a new imprint called Chop Shop Records, sharing a name with her music-supervision business. The Pasadena-based label hasn't signed any artists yet, but Patsavas is most likely to scout the same types of indie-rock acts she's been breaking on TV. For the details,

So the series finale of the "The OC" has come and gone, with an hour of television that was at once wonderful and terrible. For the first 20 minutes or so, I found myself wanting to tap the actors on the shoulders and remind them that this was, in fact, the final episode ever and could they please stop wasting time on silly trivialities, such as exposition and Taylor's blog?

TV Tonight: "The OC" Series Finale

I've said it once and I'll say it again: "The OC" is officially over. Sure, the show hasn't been a ratings darling this season, but even I was shocked when Fox announced in early January that it was canceling the series for good.

Thankfully, after last week's rather lackluster post-earthquake episode, it looks like the writers have prepared the action-packed finale that this melodramatic show deserves. Time-wise, the final show picks up six months after the earthquake happens, which is kind of a cheap move but also lets us fast-forward to some juicy plot possibilities. Maybe it's because last week's episode of "The OC" ended in what looked to be the worst earthquake since the great San Francisco shake-up in 1906, but I was expecting something a little more earth-shattering on last night's show, "The Night Moves." (And for those of you wondering, yes, the title is a reference to the Bob Seger song of the same name. Oddly.)

I rushed home from the Sugar Publishing happy hour to catch last night's episode of "The OC." By the time the show ended at 10 p.m., I was feeling a little nauseated — and it wasn't from the cocktails. So just how sappy and ridiculous and flashback-filled was "The Case the Franks"? Let me just say: Had I spent the week eating only conversation hearts and clothing myself in rose petals, I don't think I could have written a more sickeningly sweet Valentine's Day episode than this one.

Taylor and Ryan are trying to decide how not to mess up the big day, when Taylor finds a mysterious address in Ryan's stuff. Turns out, it's the address of Frank Atwood, who Taylor agrees to help reconnect with Ryan. "The OC" Recap: Episode 12, "The Groundhog Day"

You know a show is desperate for ideas when it's building plot lines around Groundhog Day, and that's precisely what happened on last night's episode of "The OC." Che is still in Newport and struggling with the revelation that his soul mate is a sea otter and, therefore, probably Seth. His other major concern: liberating the groundhog that is Newport's version of Punxsutawney Phil. He enlists Seth's help in freeing the critter, and thank goodness, because otherwise, we'd miss out on a number of old-fashioned Seth one-liners, which keep the episode from being a total waste.

I'm really hoping the "The OC" will pull out all the stops now that the show is going off the air, and last night's over-the-top episode, "The Dream Lover," was a promising start. We've got two interlopers in Newport, including Che, who is getting weird Seth vibes, and Henri-Michel, who wants to rent a house in California and invites Taylor to move in.

Henri, after all, is willing to do anything to win his Peaches back. Thursday night's episode of "The OC" focused mostly on Taylor and her French ex-husband, Henri-Michel, who makes Ryan feel threatened despite being a pretentious weenie. The episode starts as Taylor realizes that the hottest new erotic novel on the market, A Season for Peaches, is a thinly veiled account of their affair written by Herni. (Apparently, page 47 is where it gets really hot.) She begs Ryan not to read it, and he agrees — until he runs into the ex-hubby signing copies at a bookstore and breaks down.

Speaking of breakdowns, over at NewMatch, Julie is having a hard time hiding the male prostitution ring from Kirsten, who is getting suspicious. It certainly doesn't help when Kirsten overhears Julie promising a client that "this one will have his back waxed," which prompts Kirsten to steal Julie's cell phone to snoop.

Maybe it's just because "The OC" is going off the air soon, but I'm more excited than usual about the upcoming shows. On tonight's episode, called "The French Connection," we'll get the full scoop on the marriage between Taylor (Autumn Reeser) and her French husband. "The O.C." Recap: Episode 9, "The My Two Dads"

On last night's episode of the soon-to-be-cancelled "The O.C.," we saw Ryan's two dads come to blows while Seth and Summer engaged in a sort of engagement detente. Meanwhile, a gratuitous guest appearance by Chris Brown proved that the teen should stick to hip-hop.

"The My Two Dads" had some truly excellent Seth material. Since neither he nor Summer is willing to admit that they got engaged because of the pregnancy scare, Ryan advises Seth to force Summer to make the first move. So Seth showers her with gifts — including the Torah and cooking classes so she can learn her way around the kitchen. Summer, in turn, pushes diamond brochures on Seth and puts him in charge of Pancakes. In one priceless scene, Seth has Pancakes in a baby sling, and when Ryan gives him a hard time, he deadpans: "Don't talk to your nephew that way." But the Seth-Summer antics were merely comic relief for the real drama, so

Tonight! New TV Bonanza

Thank goodness the winter TV hiatus is almost over, because I am seriously jonesing for my favorite shows. We'll get an overdose tonight, with new episodes of "Ugly Betty" on ABC, "The Office" on NBC, and "The O.C." on Fox. Here's what you can expect. (Also, tune in later today for the scoop on tonight's new episode of "Scrubs.")

Oh My God! "The O.C." Is Officially Over

Yes, sadly, the rumors are true: After four seasons, Fox's "The O.C." is going off the air. According to a press release from the network, Fox wil continue to air new episodes of "The O.C." until the final show on Feb. 22:

"The O.C. Season Four finale will also be the series finale. This feels like the best time to bring the show to its close,” said Josh Schwartz, creator and executive producer of The O.C.

I'm at least glad that Fox is planning to show the rest of the season, because I'm really curious to see what happens next. According to TV Guide columnist Michael Ausiello, the January episodes are likely to be pretty nuts: "Someone's coming out, someone's getting pregnant, and someone's going to receive two marriage proposals." Can't wait to find out those answers. I just hope the finale is sufficiently juicy.

As for "O.C." creator Josh Schwartz, he'll be just fine for now. According to Variety, his new pilot, "an action comedy about 20-something spies" called "Chuck," was just picked up by NBC.

Season Recap: "The O.C."

Season four of Fox's "The O.C." got off to a rocky start. Given, a few hitches are expected when your main characters move into a new phase of their lives (e.g., graduating from high school), but the early part of the season was sorely lacking the campy melodrama we know and love. However, if you stopped watching after the first few episodes of Season 4, you should tune back in in January, because it's getting good again. (You can even sign a petition to save "The O.C.") Here's a recap of the season so far.

Just in case you missed it—maybe you live in Encino or something—Marissa Cooper died at the end of Season 3.
While Summer escapes to Brown University, Ryan defers college to take a job at a bar, Seth is working at the comic book store, and Taylor travels to France.

The Highlight Reel, 12/15: The Week's Best and Worst TV

Every Friday, we round up the week's best, funniest, strangest, and most embarrassing moments in television for your amusement.

NBC has been airing promos for its new reality show, "You're the One That I Want," in which thousands compete to play Sandy and Danny in a Broadway production of Grease. It looks both horrifying and completely addictive. I can't decide if my favorite part is the tortured yelp from a Sandy hopeful when another woman literally throws her aside, or when one wannabe Danny knees another in the crotch. Observe:
From the "Nip/Tuck" season finale: As Sean is packing up his house to move to LA, the couple moving in are burning sage to rid the house of bad vibes. The wife tells the husband to burn some near the TV, “just in case they watch one of those dirty cable TV shows.”
The grand prize money on "The Biggest Loser" came from ... Jell-O? Seriously? If I lost more than half my body weight, I'm not sure I'd want to be reminded of things that jiggle.

TV Tonight: The O.C., "Chrismukk-huh?"

If you're looking for some good over-the-top holiday TV, I highly recommend tonight's special holiday episode of "The O.C.," titled "Chrismukk-huh?" I was lucky enough to screen an advanced copy of this episode, and it's truly entertaining. I don't want to reveal too much, but I will say that the premise will be somewhat familiar to fans of It's a Wonderful Life and that somehow, "The O.C." manages to pull this off with minimal hokiness.

Even though I haven't been loving "The O.C." lately, this year's Chrismukkah special gives me hope that the show is returning to its early brilliance. If you agree, check out this petition to save "The O.C." on the Fox web site, where fans can pledge their allegiance:
