Here we go: a preview for the next season of Lost, which starts up in February 2009. The first part of the preview is a montage of certain plot points we've learned in the past, setting us up for some new footage we can look forward to in season five. After the fourth season with all the Oceanic Six stuff, the next season appears to deal with those six going back to the island:

Jack: "Everyone we left behind, they'd die too if I didn't come back."
Ben: "Well, thank God for second chances."

Wow. And. . . wow. The season finale of Lost was heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. It was totally intense and spooky and sweet and gave us some answers. My head is still reeling a little from the two full jam-packed hours.

Alright, folks, we're getting down to the wire on this season of Lost. Technically, this week's episode was "Part 1" of a three-part finale. We're getting so close to getting tons of answers I can taste it. Parts 2 and 3 will come in two weeks as part of a two-hour special. Until then, there's this week's episode to discuss.

One of my favorite parts of the last few episodes has been the merry trio of travelers we've gotten in Locke, Ben and Hurley. I'm going to miss their rapport and bantering when the season's over. Anyway, for more thoughts on this episode and to share your own, (spoilers ahead),

Lost Episode 11: "Cabin Fever"

Oh, I just love the Locke flashbacks! And this one is especially cool because it begins before Locke is even born, which I thought was awesome. There are so many clues and connections between Locke and the island that started way before he got to the island — before he even ended up in the wheelchair.

This episode of Lost also gave me flashbacks to when I used to watch that Nickelodeon show Are You Afraid of the Dark? Mostly that part with Locke carrying the lantern in the cabin. . . creepy! To talk more about this and other aspects of this week's episode (there be spoilers ahead, brotha),

Lost Episode 10: "Something Nice Back Home"

So, I watched this week's Lost and turned off the TV and. . . immediately forgot what happened in the episode. Why? Because nothing really happened in the episode! I was so excited when Hurley brought out the note and read it to Jack because at least that was somewhat intriguing. Most of the other stuff was Jack stressing out and the Jack-Kate-Sawyer and Jack-Kate-Juliet love triangles which, in my opinion, is getting tiresome.

Lost Episode 9: "The Shape of Things to Come"

Holy cow, this episode was crammed full of so much stuff. Murder! Betrayal! Smoke monster! It was like an entire movie in one hour-long episode. A busy, confusing movie. I can't say I totally enjoyed this week's Lost entirely (though I am psyched that it's back!) , but I loved the ending when Ben raised the stakes a few more notches.

Lost Episode 7: "Ji Yeon"

So, with this week's episode of Lost, I started out all excited that we got another Sun episode (yay!). Then there was that part with Juliet that made me scream at the TV. Then the thing happened with the person with the chains (I mean . . . what?!). Toward the end I realized that they'd been totally messing with us, time-wise and then it ended with. . . wait for it . . . an emotional sock to the gut. I'm still reeling from this.

Men Love Kate, Izzie and Gaby, Study Says

A recent poll conducted by TVGuide.com and Spike TV has confirmed what most of us already knew: Dudes dig hot chicks on TV. Still, polling 800 men ages 18 to 49, the survey does manage to uncover some interesting information in addition to just "hot girls are hot." For example, the answer with the most votes in regard to The Bachelor is "No woman I'd meet through The Bachelor is the kind of woman I'd want to be with," and not "I'd love to be on The Bachelor and have 25 women fighting to be with me."

Then there are more of the predictable results:

The favorite desperate housewife is Gaby. Not much of a shocker, seeing as Eva Longoria is the only one on Wisteria Lane to have topped Maxim's Top 100 list — twice.
A majority of the voters said they would stay marooned on an island like the one in Lost if it meant they could stay with Kate, and when asked if they would fake being sick in order to be checked out by Izzie on Grey's Anatomy, the majority voted "yes."

Lost Episode 6: "The Other Woman"

Bottom line of this episode of Lost: Sucks to be Juliet. I still don't altogether trust her, but man, she has got it bad on that island. Anyone else find her to be really pretty in this episode, too? OK, maybe I am warming to her. Just a little.

The episode wasn't as gripping as last week's with Desmond's crazy experiences, but it was more of a fill-in-the-gaps episode, rather than a blow-your-mind episode. Wow. This is one of them freaky mess-with-your-head Lost episodes, and I think it's one of the most riveting episodes I've ever seen. They're again playing with the space-time stuff, nearly to the point of causing vertigo. And I like it.

Anyone else cry a little at the end? Um, maybe more than a little? Please — tell me I'm not a total sap.

Lost Rundown Episode 4: "Eggtown"

First and foremost, Phasekitty totally called the twist at the end of this episode in one of her comments last week. Nicely done, Phasekitty. Nicely done.

As a general rule, I think I've had enough of Kate's stories, of which we've now had nine. Last week's episode was so gripping with Sayid's flash forwards, and I found myself not caring too much about Kate's stuff. Well, except for the parts that involved a shirtless Sawyer. Know what I think Sawyer's nickname for Sawyer would be? "Dimples." Anyway, otherwise, it was a fairly interesting episode.

Now, I don't want to be ungrateful here. These precious few episodes of Lost are some of the only snippets of new TV we're able to get during these lean writers' strike days. But there's always too much happening on this show. There are so many characters and so much crazy stuff going on all the time that to introduce more characters into the mix is just frustrating. Five Questions for "Lost"

This summer, I'm looking back at the most recent seasons of some of my favorite shows and posing a few hypothetical questions about their future in this feature, Five Questions. Today's questions are for "Lost," which may require several of these "Five Questions" editions — not just because I have more like a billion questions, but also because the darn season doesn't start up until early next year.

Will this season be completely awesome or totally suck? The '06-'07 season of "Lost" was one of extremes: The fall episodes sucked, the unbelievably long hiatus royally ticked us off, and then when they came back with the rest of the season's episodes in the spring, the show pretty much rocked. I have faith in you "Lost," but I feel like I've been burned, too. Proceeding cautiously, I await (and wait and wait until '0 your next trick.
Juliet: Good? Evil? Good? Evil? Love her or hate her, Juliet has gathered many viewers into her possibly evil clutches. Some think she's just doing what she needs to do to survive, having seen that softer side of Juliet in the flashbacks. But if she's actually nice deep down, how can she be so cold sometimes? Shudder. I don't trust that Juliet further than I can throw her, which isn't far because she lives in my TV and that's really heavy. I'll be interested to see what she does next — and why. This question can also be applied to Naomi, the Power Ranger who fell from the sky.

"Lost" Producers Promise Not to End Like "The Sopranos"

After "The Sopranos" ended the series on Sunday night with a black screen, "Lost" producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof have sworn not to do that when "Lost" finally wraps up in 2010. Without revealing much further about their own finale, they did promise that they "will not be ending with a blackout."

This was discussed at the annual Promax/BDA conference, along with these other tidbits:

The writers have fleshed out a plan for the final three seasons.
"I'm not sure there is any ending that will satisfy everyone," Cuse said. "Our hope is that the ending will be... the logical conclusion of the story."
Apparently, the first season was about the plane crash and the survivors of Oceanic 815, the second season was about the hatch, and the third season was about the Others. No hints about the fourth season's theme were revealed.

TV Tonight: The "Lost" Season Finale

Oh, "Lost" Season Three. What a long and rocky relationship we've endured. I'm looking forward to tonight's season finale with a mixture of excitement and premature nostalgia for those few episodes after your absurdly long hiatus when you were totally awesome. But now it's time for us to take a break again for many months (I've heard you say you'll be away until January 200 and perhaps the space will do us some good.

Tonight's 2-hour season finale (starting at 9:00 PM EST!) is titled "Through the Looking Glass Parts 1 & 2," it looks like the Losties and the Others prepare for a major confrontation. Meanwhile, Jack works to obtain contact with Naomi's rescue ship. Fellow "Lost" fans, this is the last we'll see of Charlie, Claire, Sawyer, Sun and the rest for quite some time, so enjoy those final moments. I'll see you at my recap Thursday morning.

"Lost" Producers to Remind Us of Island's "Answers" Tonight

No, they're not going to give us answers to mysteries that have not been revealed on the show yet. Rather, "Lost" executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse are going to patiently re-explain the mysteries that have been solved in the show up to this point, some of which we may have missed.

According to the press release, "The special will take an in-depth look at the mysteries of both the island and its inhabitants and recap the secrets that have been revealed, as well as those that remain unanswered."

Some of these mysteries they intend to rehash, like how Locke lost the use of his legs, just seem like the producers desperately being like, "Look! We totally deliver! Remember? Remember when we explained that thing about Locke? We're awesome. You tend to forget that. A lot."

This week's episode of "Lost", which is centered on Charlie facing his imminent death while another showdown between the Losties and the Others approaches, is high on the sap factor and low in action. "Lost" Will End in 2010

A while ago, the executive producers of "Lost" said they wanted to set an end date for the series so it didn't drag on too long. Now it's official: The show will end in 2010, after three more seasons.

Here's the most interesting part to me: Each of those seasons will have 16 episodes, and they'll air all in a row, without repeats, much like Fox does now for "24." That means no more mid-season momentum-killing breaks. As part of this deal, executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof will be with the show through the end, so fans don't have to worry about the show winding up in the hands of someone less committed to its story and mythology.

While it's unusual for a network to announce an end date this far in the future, I think it's a good move. Now we know the writers are actually moving toward a planned ending rather than just adding in plotlines and characters for the sake of keeping the show alive for as long as possible. And if you're worried that "Lost" could be spun off into something else after 2010, consider this quote from Lindelof: "Once you begin to see where we're going, I think the idea of sequels and spinoffs will completely go away."

TV Tonight: "Lost"

As the deep, gravelly voice keeps telling us on the promos for "Lost," there are only four more episodes left until the season finale. Tonight's episode is titled "D.O.C.," which could be referring to Jack's or Juliet's medical expertise, but more likely the three letters stand for something entirely different and unguessable.

In "D.O.C." Sun agrees to be examined by Juliet, thereby learning who her baby's father is. Meanwhile, Desmond accepts help from an unlikely source while trying to save the strange Power Ranger lady who fell from the sky last week. To check out a preview for tonight's episode,

"Lost" Episode 16: "One of Us"

In an episode that alternated between revealing and exasperating, this week's "Lost" gaveth some answers and promptly tooketh some away. We were led to believe that Juliet was simply a sweet girl who somehow got herself into a steaming hot mess and is now just all mixed up. But of course, in the "Lost" way, that isn't exactly the case.

This week's episode of "Lost" was a bit of a snooze fest, if you ask me. I tried to be patient, assuming there would be some answers — to anything — by the end of it, but no cigar. Plus, the flashbacks were of Kate, and she is so not my favorite character. Still, there was a nice little sentimental theme of betraying the people you love (Kate's mother betrayed her, Sawyer betrayed Cassidy, Kate betrayed Jack), and the great con man Sawyer got a taste of his own medicine — by Hurley, no less!

"Lost" Episode 13: "The Man From Tallahassee"

"Lost," I'm warming up to you again. I love most things Locke-related — even if they break my heart every time — and this episode did not disappoint. I hope there is some kind of peaceful redemption waiting for Locke at the end. Anyway, on to the episode...

"The Man From Tallahassee" is Not Locke
Locke is from Tustin, Calif., and received disability payments for depression, which stopped when he stopped his therapy. A man named Peter Talbott paid Locke a visit to talk about "Andrew Seward" (an alias for Anthony Cooper, Locke's father). According to Talbott, Anthony was engaged to Peter's mother, and Peter suspected that Cooper was marrying her for the money. Locke played dumb but later approached his father and told him to call off the wedding, but that's, uh, not exactly how things happened. To find out more — spoiler alert —

"Lost" Episode 12: "Par Avion"

Okay, so here's what I learned from last night's "Lost": Charlie and Claire can fit an awful lot of words on a small piece of paper. Also: It's pretty easy to just walk up to a seagull and grab it. But I digress... kind of. Here are my thoughts on last night's episode, "Par Avion."

It's Hard to Care Much About Claire
I don't know why, but it's not that interesting to know about her past. For about the millionth time, the episode opens with the opening of an eye, the way the "Lost" pilot began with Jack's eye. We learn that Claire and her mother were in a car accident, which may or may not have been Claire's fault. Claire's mother is in a vegetative state, which would be a problem financially if they didn't have a mysterious benefactor paying their bills. The person's identity, of course, is a spoiler, so to find out who it is,

"Lost" Episode 11: "Enter 77"

Okay, "Lost," now we're getting somewhere. After last week's feel-good episode with Hurley learning that he can make his own luck/hope, this week delivered some action, answers and... still more questions. Let's reflect:

In Sayid's flashbacks, his was Najeev and he was working as a chef in Paris where he met Sami, a fellow Iraqi whose wife, Amira, claims Sayid brutally tortured her. All they want is for Sayid to admit it. Slight problem: Sayid is certain he never tortured her and "cannot admit to something I did not do." Don't they all say that, Sayid?

On this week's episode of "Lost," Sawyer was delighted to find cans of Dharma-issued beer in the van that Hurley used as his vehicle of hope. Granted, it's a little gross that they consumed something Hurley speculated was "older than Rocky III and maybe Rocky II," but good for Sawyer for getting to guzzle some beer again.

Now you can join the Dharma party - but with better-tasting beverages! You can actually download these Hanso Foundation labels and stick them to food packages to really bring home the "Lost" island experience. "Lost" Episode 10: "Tricia Tanaka Is Dead"

TV Tonight: Cheech Marin on "Lost"

Well, last week's episode of "Lost" left much to be desired, but after a bewildering guest appearance by Bai Ling, this week promises a more fun choice: Cheech Marin is playing Hurley's dad in a flashback!

Called "Tricia Tanaka is Dead," tonight's episode features Hurley's flashbacks while in "real time" he discovers a wrecked car on the island, leading him on a mission of hope. Sawyer and Kate reunite with the other original island folk, but Kate is still determined to help Jack.

I love how the "Lost" promos are threatening us with social inadequacy: “If you miss this episode, you won’t know what everyone is talking about in the morning!” I think it just means I'll be well-rested on Thursday, but to watch the preview,

"Lost" Episode 8: "Flashes Before Your Eyes"

Well, the creators of "Lost" promised a crazy new flashback device in last night's episode, one that would blow some peoples' minds but might turn other viewers away. I, for one, am intrigued. At this point, you couldn't pry me away with Eko's wooden stick if you tried.

The episode explores Desmond's experience of the island: details of what happened before and an explanation for why he has been behaving so strangely ever since he turned the key in the Hatch and it exploded (or imploded). First off, there is good news for those viewers who are new to "Lost" and hungering for some back story. According to an ABC press release:

ABC.com is giving “Lost” fans a Valentine’s Day surprise with the first installment of four video back stories (Jack, Kate, Sawyer, and Locke). Created to provide new viewers insight into the lives of the series’ characters and to give fans an opportunity to see characters’ back stories in chronological order, each video combines scenes from previously aired episodes. Every Wednesday four back story segments will debut on ABC.com until the end of the season (60 total).

Hidden Messages in "Lost" Time

After last week's new episode of "Lost," I posted that crazy scene with Carl, and now the Internet is abuzz with this creepy discovery: If you play that scene in reverse, you can hear voices saying "Only fools are enslaved by time and space."

Hats off to the folks at SciFi2U for providing the clip of this scene, played backwards. How creepy is this?

This week’s episode of “Lost” was not outrageous or insane, but it did progress the action and we learned some things. That’s better than nothing, which is what we’d gotten used to for those three silent months. Like any desperately devoted fan, I'll take what I can get. Think About Your Life

Sawyer and Kate escape from the bad guys who were about to kill Sawyer, and Sawyer beats the guy’s head in a bit, just for good measure. Running along the shore, Kate walkie-talkies Jack and says they need a boat. Just then the walkie-talkie is shot out of her hand, and a jungle chase scene ensues. One of the men has an excellent shot of Kate; in the nick of time, Alex saves her with her slingshot.

When last we left our "Lost" comrades, Jack was using Ben's life as a bargaining chip for his friends' freedom: mid-operation, he said he would save Ben's life only if Kate and Sawyer were freed. Otherwise, he would let Ben die on the table. In the preview for this week's episode, Juliette seems to doubt Jack's ability to just let Ben die. What do you think Ben's fate will be?

TV Tonight: "Lost" Returns!

Okay, my interest is fully piqued: ABC has several sneak peeks of the upcoming "Lost" episode, and now I cannot wait for tonight! These clips are so intriguing I can almost forgive the 3-month hiatus and the new late time slot (10:00 p.m.!). As for tonight, I've found two very interesting clips. In one tense scene, Juliette calls Jack's bluff when he threatens to let Ben die, and she orders Kate and Sawyer to be brought back. Kate and Sawyer are chased by Others with guns and then someone saves Kate at the last minute - but who?! To see the clip, plus a weird pre-sex scene between Jack and some strange lady (a flashback?),
