Desperate Housewives Rundown Episodes 16 & 17, "The Gun Song/Free"

Wow, that was a lot of juicy Desperate Housewives! Two hours is a ton of any show, but when it's DH, there's just so much that goes on between the revealed secrets and sentimental conversations and plot twists — phew! What a way to end the season though, eh? I enjoyed most of the two hours but those final few moments when we glimpse the future. . . wow. I loved that.

I was totally satisfied with this season finale, as it was like classic DH (drama, humor, violence, redemption, hope, etc.) with a little something new tossed in (flash-forward). Yeah, it's not totally original (hello, Lost) but I think it spiced things up a bit and definitely got people talking! To check out more about this week's DH finale,

This Mother's Day-themed episode of Desperate Housewives was overflowing with crazy drama — including the departure of one character (though we kinda knew about that one)! I gotta say, this episode made me more uncomfortable than most, between the rudeness of Mike's mother and the entire storyline involving Kayla, it was one long, squirmy evening.

This week's episode of Desperate Housewives had some funny things (Edie, referring to Orson: "It would be like having sex with PBS.") and some sad, ominous things (that quiet exchange between Katherine and Wayne, yikes) but best of all, we have Bad Kayla back in action. It's exciting to have another creepy, maniacal child on TV. Maybe her behavior is due to all the trauma she's been through — including just having a loony mom — but I bet it doesn't help things to grow up on Wisteria Lane, which is kinda chock-full of conniving women. She's like a little "desperate housewife" in training.

Kalya's storyline stood out the most to me this week, but there are other things to discuss as well, so

I admit I rolled my eyes when ABC promoted this week's Desperate Housewives by saying it would be about "the 'wow,'" but I have to give them credit: There were at least a few "wow"s on Wisteria Lane last night. Plotlines both old and new were resolved — from Rick's restaurant fire to Mike's near death — and even Dylan's story got interesting again, complete with heavy dose of ominous music.

Desperate Housewives Rundown Episode 12, "In Buddy's Eyes"

Here's what I loved about this week's episode of Desperate Housewives: Julie finally tells Dylan what everyone's kinda thinking — just quit whining already about what happened to your dad, what your mom's big secret is, blah blah blah. I also really liked this episode because it was funny (naked Orson will probably always be hilarious to me) and super soapy (arson at Rick's?!). And I just think Gaby is the best mean girl on TV right now. She fights handicapped people!

Desperate Housewives Rundown Episode 11, "Sunday"

As a reprieve from all the crazy high-drama episodes (tornadoes, cancer, etc.), this week's Desperate Housewives was the perfect balance of silly fun (Bree's church-related hijinks) and seriousness (Dylan trying to find out what happened to her dad, Lynette searching for something to have faith in). There wasn't too much Edie, which is always a relief. And we're finally getting the story about Katherine and her "shady past." I was so sick of that storyline being dragged out. Oh, and Chris Carmack was in this week's episode! Remember him from The O.C.?

It feels like it was ages ago that we left Lynette unleashing her primal scream at a nearly destroyed Wisteria Lane, and by last night I was more than ready to find out what happened with everyone on Desperate Housewives. Maybe it's the steady decrease in new episodes on TV, but I was downright giddy to watch this week's DH, and I'm glad it didn't disappoint. Then again, because there is so little by way of new TV it's possible my standards were lowered. At any rate, I was happy to see Bree, Lynette, Susan, Gaby and the rest of the gang in my living room once more.

Desperate Housewives Rundown Episode 9: "Something's Coming"

This week's episode of Desperate Housewives is a doozy. As promised, a tornado hits Wisteria Lane, forcing together odd combinations of people and generally wreaking havoc in ways that are shown via laughable animation. All the little arguments and quibbles between the characters ultimately seem quite small "in comparison to the storm." All in all, I really liked this episode, though the ending was a dreadful way to leave things for the hiatus.

Holy episode overcrowded with storylines, Batman! I started to feel dizzy with all the many things going on in this week's episode of Desperate Housewives. There was stuff about Julie dating, Andrew growing up, Bree and Orson's sex life, Mike's pill problems and Susan's trust issues with Mike, the "woman from Chicago" showing up on Adam's doorstep, Carlos and Gaby attempting to elude the cops, and Lynette's many issues with her mother. Edie and Tom even had little moments this week. Sheesh, who didn't they include?

Desperate Housewives Rundown: Episode 7, "You Can't Judge a Book By Its Cover"

It was a pretty uneventful week on Desperate Housewives: Bree and Orson debate the merits of circumcision, Lynette tries to pawn off her mother to her sisters, Susan discovers a secret about Mike, and Gaby makes trouble on Victor's yacht. Yawn. In the land of desperation, this week was anything but. Maybe that's because the two new gentlemen neighbors were noticeably absent, as was Danielle. Apparently, now that she's delivered the baby, Bree is free to parade as doting mother to her grandson, I mean, son. Yet, even though the action was at a minimum, there were some highlights.

I have to say, this week's episode of Desperate Housewives was not my favorite. I could have done without the Susan storyline altogether, but then again, when is that not the case these days? And Gaby seems to be all over the place, which is frustrating. I finally got on board for the Edie storyline, however, and am enjoying the back-and-forth power play between Edie and Carlos. Also, I love Danielle's impersonation of Bree — it's completely spot-on! Spooky.

Another Sunday, another juicy episode of Desperate Housewives. I am loving this season so far. This week's episode piqued our interest even more in what exactly went on "in Chicago," and featured all sorts of Wisteria Lane politics. I must say, however, that as much as I like that the two gentlemen are shaking things up on the street, that Lee is a prick. At first I thought he was just kind of snarky, but now he's reached full-blown obnoxious jerk status. I have a feeling his snide comments are going to get old. Also, because of this character I had a very difficult time seeing him as "The Nice Guy" patient on last week's episode of Scrubs.

I have to admit, this week's episode of Desperate Housewives made me pretty uncomfortable at times. Between the dying woman frantic to rid her conscience of wrongdoings and Tom demanding Lynette feel sorry for him because he's the one who has to "be the hero" in her fight with cancer, it was a squirmy hour of TV. This week on "Desperate Housewives," the neighbors gather together for a rousing game of charades, though several of the women are there out of sheer gossipy curiosity, hoping to use the event as a way to find out more about Katherine's shady past. Aside from the guessing games, we get more Edie-Carlos-Gaby drama, Bree struggling to keep her fake pregnancy from Susan and Lynette's mother finding, uh, creative ways to get her daughter to eat.

Things were getting a little out of whack on "Desperate Housewives," but this week several steps were taken to make things right, including one really bold (but sad) move at the end when we finally learn who will not be returning next season. We also see the long-awaited return of Bree, get a glimpse of Victor's true intentions with Gaby, meet Lynette's mom and watch Susan give Mike a huge surprise. Dare I say last night's season finale was reminiscent of "Desperate Housewives" Season One glory?

Whoa. What started out as a typical over-the-top episode of "Desperate Housewives" ended on a very sobering note last night. The theme of last night's "Desperate Housewives" was supposed to have had something to do with being a Victim, but it was more about wrapping up old storylines and introducing new ones to look forward to next season. Susan sets off through the woods in search of Mike, Gaby abuses her new power as First Lady of Fairview, Edie devises a scheme to make sure she is not alone and Lynette's budding romance is over before it really even started. Oh yeah, and apparently Bree is still on her extremely extended honeymoon, but she might as well be dead because there has been no mention of her in at least three episodes.

Maybe I'm just getting too cynical for Wisteria Lane, but this week's episode of "Desperate Housewives" was lame. The Mike story line seems particularly bizarre and meaningless — why the sudden burning passion for Susan? And the contents of Mrs. McCluskey's freezer seems like a weak attempt to bring a macabre element back to the show, now that Orson's mom is no longer around. I never thought I'd say this, but I think we need some crazy-uptight Bree and her messed up home life in the mix to keep things interesting. But sadly, she wasn't in this week's episode. As for those who were, read on.

Edie and Carlos are a thing but Carlos doesn't exactly want to shout it from rooftops. Due to Mike walking into Carlos' room despite having heard "sex noises" coming from there, Edie and Carlos decide they need more private places to indulge their now-healthy sex life. "Desperate Housewives" Recap: Episode 18, "Liaisons"

I guess the "theme" for this week's "Desperate Housewives" had something to do with loneliness, what with Mrs. McCluskey talking to her dead husband and the narrator asserting that "the loneliest people are those who talk to people who aren't there." But mostly, it was a bunch of random story lines thrown haphazardly together. Not the worst of "DH," but certainly not the best.

I find it hard to care about Edie, probably because the writers have done their best to vilify her. It's funny/sad when she praises her son Trevor for properly pouring her beer — "I tipped the glass just like you told me!" Then Trevor asks Edie what it means to be "bad in bed," since he overheard Carlos describing Edie that way. Edie tells him that "bad in bed" means bad at making beds, which is sure to bring that kid trouble on the playground someday.

She challenges Carlos to a "re-match," which leads to a "passionate" grabfest resulting in physical injury, a visit to the hospital, and their decision that they shouldn't have sex. In the end, however, they coo over family-style photos of themselves and Trevor, which leads them to tender, loving sex, instead of the violent kind. More details and musings if you

"Desperate Housewives" Recap: Episode 17, "Dress Big"

As the episode title suggests, the loose "theme" of this week's "Desperate Housewives" was women's clothing — what women (and, uh, some men) choose to wear, take off, and keep in the closet. It was some good, classic "DH," with improbable plot lines and a few great one-liners.

Gaby and Edie are suddenly BFF, and return from their shopping spree to find Gaby's entire wardrobe ruined from water damage — though, as we'll see twice later, her lingerie drawer was unaffected. So, the next time she's at Victor's house refusing his affections, she can't help but notice his ex-wife's closet full of haute couture. Gaby had some of the best lines of the night, like when Victor says he doesn't know much about fashion and she replies, touching the dresses, "Shh! They'll hear you."

Later she sneaks back into the ex-wife's closet to steal some clothing, since they are the same size (a child's size 6?). The ex-wife sees Gaby wearing her dress at a party and makes her take it off right then and there, before slugging Victor in the face. In the end, Victor wins Gaby's heart by admitting that he was a womanizing husband and treated his ex-wife like crap. Swoon!

"Desperate Housewives" Recap: Episode 16, "My Husband the Pig"

I'm approaching three full seasons of loyal "Desperate Housewives" fandom, even sticking by it during that second season when the quality took a real nosedive. But last night's episode shook my belief in the show, possibly forever. The show was narrated by Rex, Bree's deceased first husband, and I was curious to find out how they would tie him into the series again this long after his death. But you know what? They didn't! I'm assuming it was a way to feature a kind of "male perspective," but for one thing I didn't understand why, and for another thing, Rex seems to have a pretty bitter perspective.

Usual narrator Brenda Strong gabs a bit until we get to the graveyard, where Rex takes over the narration with some bad old timers' humor: "Hi, I'm Rex. I didn't like cemeteries when I was alive. Now that I'm dead, I like 'em even less!" For more cringe-worthy details,

First things first: What on earth was up with that gravy boat-shaped hairdo that Danielle was sporting on this week's "Desperate Housewives"? Maybe it was a requirement in exchange for more screen time? Anyway, this episode was highly informative ... at least, in regard to Orson. Everyone else got nice and comfortable on those back burners, with the exception of Susan's big moment.

Also, I think this is one of the episodes that was filmed in Marcia Cross's actual home, with the set for Bree's home built in. Throughout the episode, Bree was only seen lying down, and I kept wanting to yell at the other characters to just leave the poor pregnant lady alone! She seemed tired. "Desperate Housewives" Recap: Episode 14, "I Remember That"

In this week's "Desperate Housewives," Mike remembers a bunch of important stuff from his past (hence the episode title) and everyone else ... continues with their own lives. Mike has started seeing a hypnotherapist in his attempts to remember whether or not he murdered Monique. In his memories (wow, hypnotherapy works really quickly! Why didn't he try this like, seven episodes ago?), he discovers that he went to Monique's house to fix her pipes and she drunkenly came on to him. She showed him her hand where she wrote down the number for Mike's plumbing service, so that explains that piece of evidence. Mike got to work under her sink (I wish that were a clever double entendre, but it's not) and realized he needed another part, then left the house. When he returned someone else was there ... but who? Mike wakes up without learning who he came upon, but is relieved to know (according to his dodgy memory, that is) that he isn't a murderer.

In this week's Desperate Housewives, we learn how "life as we know it can change in a heartbeat." Ian's comatose wife, Jane, has taken a turn for the worse, and Ian continues to have trust issues with Susan, accusing her of being obsessed with freeing Mike from jail. Indeed, Susan does not approve of the new lawyer's plan of action: having Mike plead guilty to murdering Monique.

Upon hearing that newly wealthy Zach Young is interested in Gaby, Susan begs Gaby to go out with Zach and ask him to hire a better lawyer for Mike. Gaby is reluctant to help, as Zach recently added yet another item to his Super Creep resume: He paid off the beauty pageant judges so Gaby's student would win. Annoyed, Gaby wants little to do with Zach, but eventually agrees to Susan's plan.

Gaby pays Zach a visit and tells him he can take her to dinner and he will pay for a new lawyer. Zach doesn't care for her terms and starts negotiating. Soon the two are bartering like old ladies at an open air market. Zach says he could post Mike's $1 million bail, if Gaby will spend the day with him and throw in a good night kiss. Gaby reluctantly says she'll do it. To find out what else happens,

"Desperate Housewives" Recap: Episode 12, "Not While I'm Around"

This week's "Desperate Housewives" was all about trust and safety. The opening voiceover compared life as a housewife to that of a prison inmate, since both protect themselves from dangerous people. Heavy-handed, sure, but this season on the whole has been rather well-written, especially when it comes to the juicy one-liners, and there were some great ones in this episode.

Over in prison, Mike Delfino is learning about self-protection, whittling weapons out of common objects. Yet when some thugs come 'round to beat him up for no apparent reason, it's Paul Young who comes to Mike's rescue. Afterward, Mike tells Paul that he owes him one, and Paul agrees. But then Paul slips the thugs some money, and we see that they were paid to assault Mike, so Paul could be the hero and gain the upper hand on Mike.

Gaby's admirer from the previous episode has gotten creepier, breaking into her home to leave a $6,000 dress in her entryway. Terrified, Gaby asks Carlos to sleep on her couch in case the admirer/stalker comes back. When a man approaches the house with a jewelry box, Carlos tackles him, though it turns out he's only the assistant to the admirer/stalker. The assistant gets his boss on the phone, and the smooth talker wins her over so she agrees to meet him for lunch. "But you have to stop buying me these expensive gifts!" she playfully insists. "Because I'm not that kind of girl. Well, for that many carats, yes, I could be that kind of girl." To find out who Gaby's stalker is and more,

"Desperate Housewives" Recap: Episode 11, "No Fits, No Fights, No Feuds"

Last night's Desperate Housewives was highly informative, with flashbacks to the real story of Alma and Orson. It turns out Alma is alive and well and that she left Orson without any kind of real fight — and certainly without violence. Orson, in fact, was relieved to be rid of Alma, as he was then free to enjoy his extramarital affair with Monique. So, apparently Orson was not actually lying to Bree when he told her on their wedding day that he didn't kill Alma. Whether or not he played a part in Monique's death, however, remains to be seen.

Alma shows up on Bree and Orson's doorstep and Bree, of course, invites her in for tea. She tells Bree she feels it's "time to make amends," and Bree uses Alma's reappearance to her advantage by hosting a dinner party in which she unveils Alma to her friends, proving that her husband is certainly not a murderer.

Unfortunately, Susan has already called Detective Ridley to tell him about Orson's stint at the mental institution when he was 17, making him again a suspect in Monique Pollier's death. The police arrive during the dinner party to Bree's shock and dismay. Susan offers weakly, "I didn't know they'd come tonight." Susan has succeeded in casting suspicion on someone besides Mike but in the process tainted her friendship with Bree.

Also, anyone notice how, in last night's episode, Bree was always shown from the chest up? That's because the show was taped when Marcia Cross was quite pregnant! Anyway, for more juicy recap details

Season Recap: "Desperate Housewives"

Desperate Housewives was not at its best last season, and many people felt the series got a little cheesy and muddled. The first ten episodes of Season 3 seem promising, though, with many of the same old characters and antics, but also with new mysteries to mull over. In case you need a refresher course in what’s been going on so far on Wisteria Lane, read on.

Lynette
Lynette grapples with the challenge of including Tom’s child Kayla in the Scavos’ lives, while trying to avoid Kayla’s mother, Nora. Nora, meanwhile, uses Kayla to manipulate her way into as many of the Scavo activities as possible. Tom decides he wants to leave the advertising world and open a pizza parlor, though Lynette thinks it’s a terrible and risky idea. Claiming to support Tom in whatever he does, Nora comes on to Tom, who rejects her. Then Lynette awesomely kicks open Nora’s door and tells her to keep her interactions with her husband and family strictly to dropping off Kayla at the house.
