Reading your comments and seeing the bookmarked books for this week's Buzzworthy challenge has inspired me so much, I think I just may start a kind of virtual Book Club here on Buzz! Stay tuned for more details on that. And until then, check out some of the great book club book suggestions submitted by Buzz readers.

The Road by Cormac McCarthy
I've often heard rave reviews of this novel by No Country for Old Men author Cormac McCarthy, and liza0183 is joining the chorus of praise. liza0183 writes, "This won the Pulitzer Prize you have to go out a read it. I finished it in 2 days it's a great, solid, moving book. McCarthy is the new Steinbeck in my opinion."

Tess of the D'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy
Adrianne has this to say about her book club book idea: "I'm not a part of any book club, but I think this is one book that will definitely have readers, namely female readers, either siding with Tess or rooting for her to overcome her many battles, both with her surroundings and within herself. The ending is really the turning point for Tess's character, as I found her to be a strong and brave character, despite the majority of the text's description of the fallen woman. Although an ancient book, it remains a classic!"

What's Buzzworthy? Book Club Books

As the writers' strike seems to have no clear end in sight, now might be a good time to start a book club! There are so many books I've been meaning to read for ages, and I think a book club might be just the thing to make me sit down and read them. Now I just need some suggestions.

Some books that I think would generate great discussion — especially among women — include Elizabeth Gilbert's fabulous memoir Eat, Pray, Love, and the biblically-set novel The Red Tent. I also think it might be beneficial to check out some of the books that are about to be made into movies, since it's often hard to read the books after having seen the movie.

I'd suggest Sue Monk Kidd's The Secret Life of Bees (soon to star Dakota Fanning and Queen Latifah) and the classic novel Revolutionary Road (opening in December with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in the lead roles).

What book club books are your favorites? If you're a seasoned book club member, what would you suggest for all different levels of book club members (beginners, intermediates, advanced readers)? What's Buzzworthy: The Best Books of 2007

Thanks to all of you who participated in my Buzzworthy challenge to choose the best books of 2007 — and all of my challenges this year! It's been fun, and I'll be back with more great challenges in 2008.

For this challenge, you all picked out some great titles — some that I've read, others that have made my list of books to check out in the future. Here were some of the picks:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling

Unsurprisingly, the final book in the Harry Potter series was a favorite pick in this challenge. It was bookmarked by MuggleCrazed and tchemp, who called it a satisfying conclusion for readers of all ages.

Full Frontal Feminism: A Young Woman's Guide to Why Feminism Matters by Jessica Valenti

Adrianne chose this title, recommending it with these words: "If you've got no clue as to where to start looking into feminism, then this is probably the book to read. The author writes in a simple style that calls out to the reader to really take an understanding into women and the particular events that surrounds us on a daily basis. I discovered this book over the summer and read it in three days, non-stop. I'm re-reading it after I finish my other book soon!"

What's Buzzworthy? The Best Books of 2007

I love reading under any circumstances, but with the writers' strike likely to roll into next year, I'm going to be needing book recommendations more than ever. So before we flip the calendar to 2008, I wanted to ask you all about your favorite books of 2007.

One of my favorites: Will Allison's What You Have Left, a book I picked up almost by accident at my local library and ended up devouring in a weekend. The novel is essentially a set of interconnected short stories focusing on an estranged father and daughter trying to find their way back to each other, with side appearances from NASCAR, the Confederate flag, and poker machines. It's a small, spare book that manages to be incredibly affecting.

Others from the year that I'd recommend: Barbara Kingsolver's Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, which made me want to make my own cheese; Ann Patchett's Run, which had some of my favorite characters of the year; and Khaled Hosseini's A Thousand Splendid Suns, as good a follow-up as I could have imagined to The Kite Runner.

What's Buzzworthy: Favorite Holiday Albums

We can debate the best and worst songs of this season until we all turn blue (or our fingers fall off for that matter) because everyone has strong opinions about which holiday music is appropriately cheerful and which is gratingly annoying. I try my best to bring in new holiday albums every year so my collection doesn't grow too stale, but I must admit that I have my time-tested favorites!

I love Nat King Cole's Christmas Song so much I suggested it in one of my holiday gift guides. Cole's voice is just so warm and comforting — like the holiday season itself. For an even more down-home Christmastime atmosphere, I turn to Christmas With Johnny Cash. And in more recent years I've loved the smooth jazzy seasonal tunes on Diana Krall's album Christmas Songs.

Watching challenging films is a worthy goal, but sometimes, I just want to relax with a movie I've seen a zillion times before. My comfort movies may not be the best or smartest movies in my collection, but they're perfect for curling up on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and mentally reciting the lines I've heard a million times before.

So for this week's Buzzworthy challenge, I'm asking you to bookmark your favorite comfort movies, the most trustworthy films in your collection. I'm starting you off with Beautiful Girls, a movie I've seen more times than I could count on my fingers and toes put together. All through college, I toted around a VHS tape with a recording of it from my parents' TV; then, I upgraded — slightly — to a beat-up official version I bought from eBay. I finally got the movie on DVD a couple of years back, and I still pull it out every time I just want to watch something familiar. For good measure, I've tossed in a couple of my other standbys, Laurel Canyon and Drop Dead Gorgeous.

What's Buzzworthy: Young Adult Novels

Many thanks to all of you who participated in this week's Buzzworthy challenge to bookmark your favorite young adult novels! I now have a super long list of titles I can turn to when I need that special brand of teen angst, raw emotion and fluttery first love that always manages to comfort me and cut me to the quick at the same time.

Most notably, it looks like our resident YA librarian, smart blonde is the lady to ask for YA novel suggestions! Each of the titles she bookmarked looks intriguing and I can't wait to put her advice to good use.

At one time or another, we've all found ourselves on a long flight, desperate for any way to kill time. That's when the airplane movie comes in. In my opinion, the best airplane movies are pure entertainment (not too much thinking necessary), and they help pass the time so quickly you're on the ground before you know it.

The Devil Wears Prada was one of those for me. I somehow hadn't seen it by the time it hit airplane screens, but it was the perfect thing to chew up a couple of hours of my time on a cross-country flight last year. Even my boyfriend, who probably would have rolled his eyes if I'd rented it at home, had to admit it was a pretty fun movie.

What's Buzzworthy: Food Writing

Between the books you all picked for this week's buzzworthy challenge on food writing and the picks over on Yum's summer reading list, my stomach is growling. I can't wait to read a bunch of these, but I think I'll have to do it with a tall glass of lemonade and a yummy snack nearby. Subtitled "How One Man Nearly Lost His Sanity, Spent a Fortune, and Endured an Existential Crisis in the Quest for the Perfect Garden," this book was picked by Linda McP, who wrote: "William Alexander narrates the story of his love/hate relationship with his garden and his battle with the forces of nature to grow his own produce. A Thousand Days in Venice

All month, Yum has been posting some great food writing in the site's summer reading series. For this week's Buzzworthy challenge, I wanted to put Buzz readers to the test to see what other drool-worthy food books you had on your shelves.

Here are the parameters: Fiction and non-fiction are both OK, but no cookbooks — though books that include recipes within their chapters are certainly welcome. To start things off, I've bookmarked Barbara Kingsolver's Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, which Fit read recently and I just finished the other day. It's a well-written look at the very hot topic of eating locally, tracing Kingsolver's family's move to a farm where they raise much of their own food and buy the rest from their neighbors.

What's Buzzworthy: First Albums

Bookmarking all your old first albums for this week's Buzzworthy challenge seemed like it was a fun way to think back on those first few albums you chose as a hip kid (well, you probably thought you were super hip at the time!). It was often hilarious to peruse the titles you bookmarked, especially since I'd forgotten all about some of these musicians! Others (like The Backstreet Boys) continue to haunt us to this day with their "comebacks." Yeesh. I would dance around the room singing 'Only In My Dreams' as if I had written the song itself. Don't you kind of miss that wholesome childhood pop?"

For this week's Buzzworthy challenge, let's take a little trip down Memory Lane... back to when you bought your first album. Not your first CD, mind you, but the first album (or albums) you can recall purchasing and bringing home as your own.

My first memory of putting my very own brand-new cassette in the tape player features Madonna's 1983 self-titled album, Madonna. I've bookmarked the CD version of it, of course, because that's much easier these days. I also have fond memories of bringing home Talking Book by Stevie Wonder and grooving to "Superstition." Molly has helped me kick off this Buzzworthy challenge by bookmarking Paula Abdul's Straight Up — and she found an actual cassette version online! Ah, memories.

What's Buzzworthy: Addictive TV Shows

Wow, this was by far the most exciting Buzzworthy challenge ever! Asking about your favorite addictive TV shows yielded unprecedented results, and I can see you all feel as strongly as I do about your shows — you know, the ones you tell everyone about because they "just hafta see it as soon as possible!" Some of you bookmarked ones I've mentioned before for being the most gripping, cliffhanger-y shows in my collection, like "24" and "Alias." Despite all those great reasons to keep the TV on, it really is starting to feel like we're in the summer TV doldrums. The good news: It's the perfect time to catch up on favorite series on DVD. Some series are so addictive, they're meant to be watched straight through; recently, I powered through each of the first two seasons of "Weeds" in about three days each. Shows like "Alias" and "24" are also best watched straight through, without annoying reruns or pesky commercials.

What's Buzzworthy: Foodie Movies

I got hungry just scrolling through your picks for my latest Buzzworthy Challenge. You all picked out a great group of foodie movies that have me craving everything from Greek food to candy to Thanksgiving dinner. Here are a few that sounded extra-yummy to me:

Eat Drink Man Woman
Bookmarked by Fab_Kitty, who wrote: "In this lovely Ang Lee film, several food preparation sequences are interspersed in the story of a widowed chef father having trouble with the maturation of his three young adult daughters. Where the family communicates best is over the dinner table and throughout this warm film, the best and most surprising lines are delivered between bites of mouthwatering morsels. A friendly warning: do NOT watch this movie while hungry!"

Like Water for Chocolate
This popular pick was bookmarked by both MDF20 and firedancyr7. Firedancyr7 called it "a story about a woman who can express her love and emotions through her cooking to such a point that those who eat it can feel her emotions as their own. An excellent movie — but be prepared it's a foreign film and that means subtitles."

To my surprise, I actually enjoyed this weekend's new romantic drama No Reservations, all about a chef at a fancy New York restaurant. My enjoyment wasn't entirely dependent upon the fact that there was food involved, but I have found that I am often drawn to movies that include luscious shots of delicious-looking food. Even better are those movies, like Waitress, that use food as a kind of structural device (Keri Russell's character thinks up new pies that reflect what's going on in her life).

So for this week's Buzzworthy challenge, tell me: What are your favorite foodie movies? What's Buzzworthy: Coming-of-Age Novels

Wow, I thought I knew a lot of great coming-of-age novels, but this week's Buzzworthy challenge proved how many great-looking titles I have missed out on. Thanks to everyone who participated in this challenge — I now have a nice, long list to bring with me to the bookstore this weekend! Mainly Obsessed bookmarked this classic Southern coming-of-age tale with this comment: "I don't know anyone who has read this book and hasn't loved it. I mean Boo Radley for god sakes!"

How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents
I have actually read this book, and absolutely loved it. melyshka says this about her suggestion: "This might not be the 'typical' coming of age novel, but for those of us who grew up Latina in the U.S., and especially for those of us who lost the language of our ancestors in the process, this one hit particularly hard for me."

What's Buzzworthy? Coming-of-Age Novels

Perhaps this genre of literature might have been more appropriate in the spring when everything was growing and changing, but summertime is great for coming-of-age novels as well. These novels are popular because they're so universal — everyone knows what it's like to suddenly feel hurried out of childhood and into the awkward new stages of becoming an adult.

Some of these books speak to us more than others, however, so tell me which ones you've found funniest, most interesting or most touching. For me this genre immediately makes me think of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, a book I must have read five or six times.

What's Buzzworthy: Action Movies

As I mentioned last week when I challenged you to Buzzworthy your favorite action movies, summertime feels like the best season to grab the popcorn, find some air-conditioning and get swept away by the blockbustery goodness of a high-octane flick. I can't wait to update my Netflix queue, since I forgot all about some of these oldies but greats.

The Rock
One of my personal favorites, Linda McP has this to say about her pick: "Sean Connery, Nicholas Cage, and Ed Harris are perfectly cast in this film about domestic terrorism (all of San Francisco is held hostage by a deranged war hero played by Harris). Parts of the film are unrealistic, for sure, but the interplay between and among the characters makes this film a worthwhile pick. Connery just gets better as he ages!"

Kill Bill, Volume I
Another favorite of mine, this was chosen by tdamji who writes, "It's great to see a woman in a starring role in an action movie. There don't seem to be very many like that. Lucy Liu is great in this, as is Uma Thurman."

The Transformers movie may not have been my cup of tea, but it's definitely not because I don't like action movies. I think there are some great ones out there, such as many of the James Bond films — especially the recent Casino Royale (which, by the way, I loved). I've also enjoyed the Bourne movies (The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and I can't wait for this summer's Bourne Ultimatum) and Minority Report. Finally, of course, the Indiana Jones movies will always have a place in my heart.

Paris, Paris: Journey into the City of Light by David Downie
Demily tagged this book, calling it: "A really fresh, literary perspective of Paris from an American who lives there. Not at all the typical touristy-cliche travel writing that stereotypes Paris. It's great for anyone thinking of living there or visiting and wanting to see a different (local) perspective. Also, Downie is much more intellectual and sensual than most travel writers I have read. There is a good dose of history and many literary references. Over all, a really unique and sophisticated view of the city so many writers have generically romaniticized."

If I had lots of money and lots of time, I'd spend it all traveling the world. But I don't, so instead I read travel writing. If I can't visit all the exotic destinations on my wish list, I can at least hear about other people's adventures (and misadventures) in them.

Because the past week was Honeymoon Week on the Sugar Network, I started thinking about travel, and I realized I need some recommendations for great new books that will transport me to places I won't necessarily get to see for myself. What's Buzzworthy: Animated Family Movies

From the looks of it, many of you also have a soft spot in your hearts for animated family movies — those cartoony films that are often marketed primarily toward children, but are totally enjoyable for adults as well. Scrolling through the titles you all suggested for this week's Buzzworthy challenge was like a pleasant walk down memory lane, though I also learned about some movies I'd never checked out.
