Righteous Kill: Mostly Just Killing Time

You know, it's nice to see Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro up on the big screen together. It's sort of sweet to see the two enjoy some banter back and forth, two grumpy older men who happen to be film legends. But is it worth sitting through the mediocre, thrill-less thriller that is Righteous Kill? I'm not so sure.

Much of the movie feels incredibly familiar, and my guess is it wouldn't have gotten any attention if it weren't for the promise of "DeNiro and Pacino reuniting on the big screen!!" The script — and, frankly, the performances — are lacking so much, these two huge legendary names in the credits can't save it. For more of my thoughts on this,

88 Minutes: Actually 105 Minutes, And Feels Longer

I fear for the future of Al Pacino's career. If 88 Minutes is any indication — and I think it might be — he should stop. Now. Or stick to cameos because his near-constant presence in 88 Minutes is an exercise in frustration. And sure, much of the movie is frustrating. It's not all his fault, not by a long shot. I'm just so baffled by how an actor so revered could have one facial expression to offer. I fear he'll fall into the same category as Diane Keaton — every performance one-note, and that note makes us cringe. It makes me wonder if there's really much there at all. And that sucks.

The movie follows the successful Seattle forensic psychiatrist and professor Jack Gramm (Pacino, with an extra six inches of puffy hair adding to his height) whose testimony in the trial of serial killer Jon Forster (Neal McDonough) helped send Forster to death row. However, now that the killer's execution date has arrived, there have been murders occurring in the city that mirror Forster's, casting doubt on his guilt and causing his lawyers to call for a stay of execution. Could Just Anyone Write Johnny Depp's Movie About Dalí?

A New Zealand newspaper is claiming just that.
According to the New Zealand Herald, Johnny Depp is set to play surrealist painter Salvador Dalí in the film Dalí. All he needs now is a script. And apparently he doesn't really care who it comes from — just as long as it's good.

Anyone.
The paper claims Depp is holding "open auditions" to find the right screenwriter. A source in the story says, "He's open to working with anyone — from housewives to pensioners — if the script is right." Now, how credible this source is remains to be seen.

What is it about Salvador Dalí biopics?
In addition to Depp's Dalí, Al Pacino is set to play the artist in Dalí and I and there has been talk of another one titled Goodbye, Dalí with Peter O'Toole. When asked about this shared interest in the painter 18 years after his death, Dalí producer Peter Rawley offered, "Filmmakers somehow pick up on the vibe. But three films is nothing, at one stage, we counted up to nine."

First Look: Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino in Righteous Kill

Awesomely, a teaser trailer has arrived for the highly anticipated crime thriller Righteous Kill, which has brought together Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino for the first time since they starred together in Heat (1995). Both men look grizzled and tired, which works quite well for the weathered old cops they're portraying. The two are veteran NYC policemen trying to hunt down a serial killer who targets recently acquitted criminals. Though it's just a teaser trailer, it's still totally exciting to see these two powerhouses onscreen together. Righteous Kill is scheduled to open September 12. To check out the teaser,

50 Cent Joins DeNiro and Pacino in Indie Crime Thriller

Back in May we learned the exciting news that Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino will star together in a movie for the first time since they both appeared in Heat. Back then, they were only in two scenes together but now they'll be together for the entirety of the film, which is titled Righteous Kill. This news struck me as a little strange because the movie is an indie crime thriller with a budget of $60 million, considered measly by big-time Hollywood standards (especially when dealing with in-demand actors like DeNiro and Pacino).

Now for an update: Rapper Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson is in final talks to join the two big guns in Righteous Kill. According to Billboard, "The acting veterans play detectives tracking a serial killer, while Jackson would play a drug dealer who helps them with their investigation." Well, now that 50 Cent has landed a part, I'm curious to see what Christina Aguilera ends up with.

Ocean's Thirteen: New Featurette With Clips and Interviews

The Ocean's Thirteen folks are readying themselves for the Cannes screening this Thursday, and the more I see of the movie the more appealing it looks. In particular, I am loving this 4-minute featurette in which we catch more glimpses of the movie along with interviews with the cast. It's particularly cute when Brad Pitt calls Al Pacino "another handsome, handsome man," and when Ellen Barkin describes how "fabulous" it is to be the one lady in such a guy-heavy cast.

The film world is freaking out over the news that Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino will star together again in an indie film titled Righteous Kill, as reported by Variety.
According to Zap2It, Eric Roberts (Thompson on "Heroes") and Nestor Carbonell (Richard on "Lost") have been added to the cast of Batman sequel The Dark Knight.

Ocean's Thirteen: New Website and Lots of Photos

Warner Bros has fully launched the official website for the latest Danny Ocean casino heist, Ocean's Thirteen, complete with plenty of stills from the film. This third in the series will feature the same handsome men and excellent actors as usual — we got us some Clooney, some Pitt, a little Cheadle, and a dash of Damon, among others.

As you may have seen from the preview, Ocean's 13th addition is Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia), who helps the gang take down another high roller, played by one of cinema's ultimate casino guys, Al Pacino.
