After an Australian couple defaulted on their $150,000 loan, and then failed to answer phone calls or emails and vanished from their home and workplaces, the lawyer for the mortgage provider
turned to the next obvious place — Facebook.
With a quick search, the lawyer found two people with the same birthdays and email addresses as the missing defendants. He now had some way to tell the couple that they lost their home!
The Day the Earth Stood Still may
not have been a critical hit but it is now officially a box office success,
earning $31 million over the weekend and topping
Four Christmases, which slid into second place.
Twilight,
Bolt, and
Australia followed in third, fourth, and fifth places respectively.
Meanwhile, Variety is reporting that
smaller, independent films "delivered one of the best weekends ever for the specialty box office."

Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman kept the worldwide promotional tour for
Australia going with a stop off in Leicester Square last night. The film has had a
lukewarm response at the box office but perhaps it can score overseas. As the twosome continue to travel the globe, Nicole talked about her baby Sunday and this time she shared some upcoming
holiday plans, which include puppet gifts and "a lot of hugs and kisses and Christmas carols."

Following the
world premiere of their new film in Australia last month, Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman have taken Australia around the world, from
New York City to
Madrid, and last night they brought Baz Luhrmann's movie to London. The director himself also walked the red carpet in Leicester Square alongside Catherine Martin, and was joined by British celebs like Elton John, David Furnish, Twiggy and Konnie Huq.
Do you plan to see it? You can check out video footage of the premiere and film after the jump.

Reese and Vince proved a potent pair at the box office once again as
Four Christmases came in at No. 1 for the second weekend in a row. The holiday comedy
earned an estimated $18.2 million over the weekend, bringing its overall total since debuting to $70.8 million.

As the days get colder, the cinema is a cosy prospect. Several big films are released this month, from romances and comedies to dramas and children's movies with that crossover-appeal. I'd love to know which you're excited about, and which you'll avoid, so take my slideshow poll and tell me if you plan to see or skip each film.

Nicole Kidman continues to travel the world with her on and off-screen loves by her side as she promoted Australia in Madrid yesterday and today. The actress glowed in gold and then offset her black dress with white heels as she continues to live up to
her character's stylish wardrobe. Both of Nicole's hairdos looked loft and luscious —
which of her premiere hairstyles you like best.

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban showed us Sunday's precious face visiting Galeries Nationales du Grand Palais in Paris today after last night's
Australia premiere. On the red carpet, Nicole was joined by Hugh Jackman and while the movie may not have
opened big in America, the reviews
aren't terrible and of course the
wardrobe is romantic and beautiful. At a press conference Nicole clarified
recent statements she made about leaving acting.
Australia: A Romantic Wardrobe, Part I Today, the highly anticipated romantic adventure
Australia, directed by Baz Luhrmann, releases. I had the opportunity to preview the film, in all its romantic glory, as well as to speak with the costume designer, Catherine Martin. We also had a fun fete at the San Francisco Ferragamo store, in honor of Lady Ashley's shoes in the movie — all designed by the Italian fashion house.
