The 1 Thing The View's Sara Haines Wishes People Would Stop Asking Women About Having Kids Later in Life

Current cohost of The View and former morning show staple on Today and GMA, Sara Haines has been professionally on top of the world for years — so it might surprise you to know that she didn't find personal success until later in life. Now 40 years old, married, and expecting her second child with husband Max Shifrin, Sara opened up to Glamour about her longer-than-expected road to starting a family . . . and the many annoying inquiries she faced along the way.

"We put so much pressure on people with ovaries," Sara points out, adding that the dreaded question she received as a single woman about if and when she wanted to have children was not only completely unhelpful, but it also made her sensitive. Furthermore, not having children until her late 30s/early 40s wasn't her plan; it was just how her life worked out. "I got married when I was 37, and I'm having my second child at 40. People say I'm brave, but I say, 'I'm not brave; I'm old!'"

The non-negotiable for Sara was finding her equal in a partner. Sure, she wishes she found Max when she was 30, had children, and retired her ovaries by her mid-30s, but it didn't work out that way. And — while she's honest about the struggles of raising kids while also worrying about aging parents and being out of sync with friends and family whose children are now teenagers — she's A-OK with how her life ended up turning out.

"This is just what I know. You don't know the difference. I don't know how much more energy I had at 25. I also had 20 more pounds on me. I prefer my body now. So there's give and take. This is just how my life looks."
