The Cast

Ewan McGregor was the first actor to sign on for a main role, and The Leftovers' Carrie Coon followed suit. According to The Hollywood Reporter, McGregor is playing Emmit Stussy, "the Parking Lot King of Minnesota," and his down-and-out brother, Ray Stussy. "A handsome, self-made, real estate mogul and family man, Emmit sees himself as an American success story," writes THR. "His slightly younger brother, Ray Stussy, on the other hand, is more of a cautionary tale. Balding, pot-bellied, Ray is the kind of guy who peaked in high school. Now a parole officer, Ray has a huge chip on his shoulder about the hand he's been dealt, and he blames his brother, Emmit, for his misfortunes."

Meanwhile, here's Coon's character's description, via TVLine: "Gloria Burgle, a practical woman who grabs the fire extinguisher when the bacon catches fire and everyone else panics. Gloria is the chief of the Eden Valley police, and a newly divorced mother, who is struggling to understand this new world around her where people connect more intimately with their phones than the people right in front of them."

Mary Elizabeth Winstead also joined the fold. We caught up with the actress at Entertainment Weekly's pre-Emmys party in LA, and she teased a couple exciting details about her character. "It's a really fun character," she revealed. "I get to be on the other side of the law a little bit. I'm an ex-con, parolee. She's also a competitive Bridge player."

The Premise

While season one is set in 2010, season two jumped back an entire generation. It's rumored that season three will return to 2010 to chronicle events that occur after season one. Creator Noah Hawley told THR that none of the main characters from season one will return. Shucks.
