Box Office: Spartans Defeat Rambo

The 300 spoof movie Meet the Spartans took the box office crown this weekend, just barely edging out the latest Rambo for first place. Still, Rambo's numbers are encouraging to studio heads, who appear to be "thinking about reviving Rambo as a franchise." According to Variety, Harvey Weinstein remarked, "Based on these numbers, there should be another one."

Meanwhile, 27 Dresses and Cloverfield swapped places, with Dresses coming out ahead in third place. Cloverfield suffered a decrease in sales of over 68% — maybe news got around about the movie's camera work making audiences vomit. Newbie Untraceable followed up just behind Cloverfield in fifth place, knocking Juno out of the top five for the first time in many weeks.

you know - i'm not really suprised that Rambo didn't come out as #1, but that's pretty impressive i guess for a #2 release. especially since the fan base of the movie is older - and well...it's been a LONG time since there was a rambo movie. now talks of reviving the franchise - that's a bit much i think.

as for the 27 dresses cloverfield thing - i was going to see cloverfield...but thought that the camera thing would make me nauseas too. not something that i'm looking forward to.

Meet the Spartan's looks so bad! Those movies aren't even parodies anymore, they just reenact the scenes using silly voices.

My husband went to see Meet the Spartans with a friend yesterday, and said it was the worst thing he'd ever seen. He said that his friend laughed a lot, but he just didn't find it funny. As soon as he walked in the door he said "That movie won't make any money." I told him that it was the #1 movie, and he was shocked!

This is so bizarre on a lot of levels. Sean Maguire - the guy with the spray-on abs - used to be a child actor when I was growing up in the UK, on Eastenders and things like that...

seriously, I'm surprised Meet the Spartans was #1. I mean, it looks even worse than Epic Movie. I will admit, I died when I saw them make fun of Britney Spears in the preview (as mean as that was..) but I mean, the rest looks REALLY bad. If it's anything like Date Movie, you'll be wanting your money back. Guessing now that they did well..AGAIN...They'll make ANOTHER 3rd epic movie! I'm still shocked it was #1. Who goes and watches these movies? That's what I would like to know!!

these spoof movies needs to end and having it number one this weekend will not have it come faster.
I'm shocked Cloverfield dropped so fast, i think the word of mouth thing killed it.

Meet the Spartans is by far the stupidest, lamest, worst, not-worth-the-money movie I've ever seen. I wonder if there is even the slightest bit of sense of accomplishment in making such meaningless cheap movie.
