Is Sylvester Stallone Still Relevant as an Action Hero?

In 2006, he returned for Rocky Balboa. Now Sylvester Stallone has dredged up another of his old action hero roles with the latest installment of Rambo. Do you enjoy seeing Sly revisit the old action roles that helped to make him a household name? Or is enough enough?

I'm a Stallone fan and the Rocky movies mean the world to me! I would like to see him do more dramatic roles though, like Copland.

I really wish he'd just stop. I've been tired of him for years. Even Connery knew when to hang up the action, for crying out loud, and even when he did an action film in his later years, he didn't try to carry them all by himself.

At this point, it's actually comical to see Stallone trying to pull it off.

With all his plastic surgery looking at his face scares me. Even his body is kind of frightening with the veins and unnatural looking physique he seems to have. I liked Rocky Balboa but his appearance really distracted me.

i'm over him. i think that his try to come back in rocky and now rambo is a little much. he's just too old and not relevant. i think that actors like bruce willis some how manage to pull it off - but sly should take the hint and figure something else out.

I heard an audio clip from the movie on the radio the other day and it sounded awful. The dialogue was terrible and it seemed like the acting would be as well. I laughed hard when I heard it.

He's a novelty these days - nothing more. Most "action heroes", with the exception of someone like Bourne or Craig's Bond, aren't known for their deep, dramatic moments. But seriously, Stallone looks so broken down. It's time to hang up the boots.

He's not my favorite choice for an action hero, but I watched an interview with him recently, and he was enlightening and very enjoyable to watch. He poked fun at himself, joking about 'Rambo in a wheelchair', commented that he'd like some other movie roles -- he is really a big softie and not like his on-screen persona ("I am a tiny fairy") and wanted to film a romantic comedy like Notting Hill. (It sounds very peculiar, but he was on Craig Ferguson's Late Night show, which has an intrinsic and infectious quirkiness anyhow. I really enjoyed the interview and was never a big Stallone fan, but was much charmed by him.) On a more serious note, Stallone explained to Ferguson that with the new Rambo movie, he wanted to bring attention to the Burmese civil war and also used documentary footage to bring a sense of gravitas to the film. He wanted the audience to see that the film was not just a fantasy but reflective of atrocities happening in the world now. Yeah, he's not my favorite action hero, but I discovered that Stallone has a lot of compassion, wit, and intelligence, and that changed my opnion of the film and the Rambo character.

I've been enamoured with Sly since the early '70's when THE LORDS OF FLATBUSH came out and I will ALWAYS be a fan of his! He may be older now but he's become wiser. Resurrecting ROCKY and RAMBO is just what Sly does. He's like, the king of sequels! As for his looks, whatever he does with them I just hope he keeps those BIG beautiful brown eyes!! There will never be another pair like 'em!

    WE LOVE YA, SLY!!
