Number Crunching: This Week's TV Ratings

  • Truth is, the ratings were great. The Moment of Truth became the highest-rated premiere of the season this week, grabbing 23.2 million viewers.
  • Idol's down, but does it matter? American Idol is still down in ratings from last season, but that doesn't mean it's not crushing everything in its path. Tuesday's San Diego auditions got an average of 29 million viewers, and Wednesday's stop in Charlotte nabbed 26.8 million.
  • OK, who's watching Supernanny? Seriously, Supernanny is the only show on ABC's Wednesday lineup that's doing anywhere close to OK, getting 7.1 million viewers. Wife Swap got 5.6 million viewers to tune in this week, while Cashmere Mafia brought in just 5.5 million.

  • Break's not bad. The premiere of Breaking Bad was good for AMC, drawing 1.35 million viewers — almost as many as tuned in for Mad Men over the summer.
  • Football scores. Sunday's Giants-Packers football game wasn't just the biggest sports program of the season — it was the biggest thing on TV, not counting Super Bowls, since 1998. That's 1998, people. The game averaged almost 54 million viewers.
  • Little luck for Chuck. The Chuck-wich wasn't great for NBC on Thursday, with the first episode bringing in about 6.8 million viewers and the second just topping 7 million. The episode of The Celebrity Apprentice in between brought in 8.9 million viewers.
  • History makes history. Did you watch the History Channel's Life Without People? If you did, you were in good company: The Monday night special got 5.4 million viewers, the biggest audience in History's, er, history.

Missed Moment of Truth, but glad to hear that Breaking Bad did okay. AMC has created some interesting shows lately. Love Man Men!

Yessss Moment of Truth! I heard about it and wanted to watch. So I was watching in the dorm lounge and some people were getting ready to go out, but they sat down when they saw I was watching and more and more people came. I loved it! My friends thought it was really interesting too, and we'll most likely watch next week together again. That guy who got himself in trouble with his wife Katia, ohhhhh haha. Good laughs.

The Moment of Truth looked so dumb. I didn't even bother watching it.

    I love American Idol, though.

I just miss my other shows. Sad

I watch 'Supernanny,' only because I would plan to work as a children's librarian. Even if you're not a parent, the things you learn on that show is really useful in handling situations with children!

It's terribly depressing when the landscape of network television is filled with low concept reality shows and American Gladiators. Put Criminal Minds back on the air with the cadre of bad reality shows that have yet to premier (or re-air) and I'll be likely to throw my TV's away for good. I haven't been this dispassionate about TV since Who Wants to Be a Millionaire premiered.

Erm, my mother is one of the people watching Supernanny every week! Along with Wife Swap Smiling haha, I introduced her to Wife Swap, but she watched Supernanny on her own. That and Dance Wars: Bruno and Carrie Ann.

Moment of Truth was painful. I think a lot of people tuned in for the first one, and a lot of those people won't be back to watch more of it.

My husband watches SuperNanny. I personally can't stand the show. I have to listen to my screaming toddlers all day, I don't want to watch someone elses right after I put mine to bed!
