Idol Rejects Get Albums of Their Own

We know about the success stories of American Idol — Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and the like. And we know about the truly spectacular failures — William Hung comes to mind. But what about all the folks in the middle, those who are talented enough to make it to the voting rounds but not good enough to win?

Well, now they're getting some albums of their own. A record label and marketing company have teamed up to create albums with songs by Idol also-rans, including Ryan Starr from season one and Alaina Alexander from season six. In all, the label plans to release four albums, each with four different contestants performing three songs apiece. The physical albums will be sold exclusively at Wal-Mart, and digital versions will be available through iTunes.

I find this a little bizarre at a time when the actual Idol winner can't manage to sell that many albums. Do that many people really want to know what AJ Tabaldo is doing? Do you even remember who AJ Tabaldo is?

I don't watch American Idol beyond the audition episodes ever, so if I know the performers' names, it's from a critic on TV news, or in the paper/online. I don't remember EVER hearing about AJ Tabaldo or Alaina Alexander.

I've watched the show on-off in season 1 however I've watched every season since; what's sad is the fact I remember these people, lol. I could see Ryan Starr being a good singer however I wonder why they would give Alaina a shot at singing again, she wasn't that great.

well we know that there ARE some rejects that have been pretty amazing....um...CHRIS DAUGHTRY...so i guess if there's a label willing to take the risk in wasting money - then it's good for everyone (except maybe us)

I thought Alaina was so irritating.

Is that John Peter Lewis in the middle??

And I do know who A.J. is, I've seen every season of Idol...it's getting really old at this point.

I do challenge the comment from Buzz about former Idol winners not selling well. While it is totally true that being a winner or runner-up doesn't guarrantee huge record sales (Taylor HIcks and Katherine McPhee, I'm looking at you) the show does produce hit makers. If you look at the record charts for the last year, Daughtry had the top selling album last year, and Carrie Underwood was the top selling country artist.

I think that someone is just trying to make a buck off of these young people that don't hve much to lose, and might have a little bit of a following. I am sure the artists themelves aren't making much off the CDs.

It is getting old. Last year was ridiculous with that skanky girl. What was her name? The one with the dirty pics all over the web? People are so trashy.

I remember Ryan Starr, but more because she was on The Surreal Life than from Idol. lol. If the winners and runners up (see: Ruben, Clay, Fantasia, Katherine, and Taylor) can't sell albums, then there's no way that these cast offs are going to make it big.

These people should just accept reality. They are not that great and they will never do as well as they want too. It's just a fact.
