Are You Watching Make Me a Supermodel?

While America's Next Top Model takes a break, Bravo is trying its own hand at a modeling competition. Hosted by Niki Taylor and Tyson Beckford, Make Me a Supermodel — which had its official premiere episode last night — is Bravo's first stab at doing a show where audience votes determine the winner. Of course, for that to work, the show needs an audience, so tell me: Are you watching?

I'm not into modeling shows, really. But Tyson Beckford and Niki Taylor - wow, Bravo got fantastic hosts for their new show! Those two are favorites of mine.

I watched the "meet the models" preview and that was enough for me. The last straw was the scene where the models were lined up and assessed like slabs of meat. I realize that's just how the industry works, but it had a really sleazy vibe to it.

The commercials make me HATE the contestants, so I'm pretty sure I'll be skipping this one.

The whole idea that a TV show can make you a "supermodel" doesn't make sense to me. The supermodels of the past became "super" by being booked by all the best designers and getting consistent, high profile work. Just because the winner of the show wins the title of a "supermodel" does not make them one. Just ask the past winners of ANTM. The previews for the show don't make me want to tune in, except maybe to drool over Tyson for an hour.

I love that america votes. Tyra doesnt have the Balls to do that on ANTM, because her favs wouldnt get through, like eva, or saliesha who blow.

I don't think ANTM is really to look for a supermodel (ridiculous photo shoots and Tyra making all the episodes about her and how she did this or that )

Make a super model at least has real people that works in the industry and can help those kids to achieve what they want giving them industry points of view. Of course they probably are not going to be in Milan or Paris but who knows is a good exposure and the challenges seem more real and accurate than what Tyra does.

I watched the casting show simply because I was too lazy to get off the couch and/or change the channel, and I was pleasantly surprised by it. I missed the official premiere episode but I'll probably catch it on the weekend. Surely they'll re-run it.

It's hard not to watch this and make comparisons to the other two modeling shows - Tyra's and Petra's. What I found interesting is how much more real the commentary is on Make Me A Supermodel. The casting agents are pretty direct about each candidate's flaws in terms of working in the industry. You really get more of a sense of how much uncertainty models face when trying to book a gig. I was surprised that Jacki got to stay but again, it seems that she has that certain something so they are willing to give her another chance after chastising her for that choice. That also seems realistic to me. I definitely think I will keep watching. I love that viewers get to vote. It should be interesting.

I am watching this show, but I don't think I would be if not for the writers strike.

I think both Perry and Dominic(sp?) are super hot. I always wonder why with all model shows except for ANTM, the people competing actually look like models, whereas on ANTM they just look like normal pretty girls. Put the girls from Make me a supermodel against any of the girls from ANTM and there would be no contest on who the actual models were.

So far, I think this show is much more realistic than ANTM. I was pleasantly surprised.

Yididea--I agree completely. For the minute I had it on, it seemed better than ANTM (I hated all those crying "I have psoriasis/a bad ex/etc" scenes!!). But the one I watched was going over the casting and they showed someone humorously who thought he was supermodel material, and it looked like it was going the way of idol like.."ha you suck," and because it's physical appearance (not so easy to change, the guy was very small) it just seems wrong to watch and laugh. At least in AI the awful singers can just never sing again, the wannabe models are told they are physically not adequate! Maybe it wasn't that bad, I instantly got bored and switched it.

Oh, and I meant that I agreed that this is a ridiculous way to "make" a supermodel, it hasn't worked on ANTM either, calling the model "super" instead of just plain "model" isn't going to make it any more successful!

I can't believe that the voting that the viewers are invited to do--call in and vote for the favourite model--counts. This was obviously filmed in the winter, so a model has been chosen already, it seems. What other explaination is there?
