Movie Previews: Prom Night, Then and Now

You know, I think I would be much more impressed by this trailer for the new version of horror movie Prom Night if it were maybe one minute shorter, or otherwise didn't include what seems like way too much of the film in the preview. As it is, I think the first part of the preview is scary enough, nothing original, but it is a remake after all. By the last 30 seconds or so, though, I'm bored. The story is predictable: a bunch of high school kids go to their prom and arrange to stay in hotel rooms afterward. Then a crazy sadistic killer shows up to terrorize the group — particularly the nubile young Donna (Brittany Snow) — and they must figure out how to survive... prom night.

After the jump, check out both the trailer for the new Prom Night as well as the super retro and creepy trailer for the original 1980 movie. Oh, the feathered hair! The disco! The horror!

The new Prom Night opens April 11. To check out the trailers, read more.

Brittany Snow's scream is extremely annoying. It didn't help that they seemed to play the same sound clip of her screaming multiple times.

yeah the reamke looks insanely unoriginal, ur usual horror movie basically. i actually think the older version's trailer was a little creepier cause of the phone calls...lol, and i love the tagline.

Hm, is that Jason from FNL I spy, Buzz?

I like silly horror movies, even if they are unoriginal ... and I like Brittany Snow (hello American Dreams!) but I'm definitely not rushing out to see this.

I love horror movies. I'll probably see this when it comes on DVD although it looks pretty bad.

Aww, I can't help but love that campy original Prom Night trailer. Too bad it gives a lot of the movie away. P.S. The original wasn't even good so I don't see why they remade it.

As far as the new movie goes: I like how they start you off think it's one kind of movie and then you realize it's completely the opposite (similar to the trailer for Red Eye) but it still looks pretty lame. It should be R.

Oh the memories of being in middle school and seeing the original Prom Night at the local theater. Where teenagers working the ticket window, sold tickets to anyone... of any age... to see any movie playing. haha!

I loved the original Prom Night... when horror movies were about scaring the audience... not grossing them out.

Is that Gabrielle Union?? Why is she still playing a teenager? Isn't she like 35? She was in '10 Things I Hate About You' when she was, I think, 27, playing a teenager.

someone should make a horror movie about directors who remake horror movies (and do it poorly) getting attacked by the movies they've so poorly remade. huh huh?
