I was just wondering...has this happened before? Not airing the Globes show and the actors not attending, I mean? Just curious...

Im pretty sure that this has not happened before. But Im not 100 percent positive.

Anyway, POP another site is reporting that they have canccelled the show all together, not even doing a non-aired ceremony. Since there are 2 different stories being reported, can someone please report the TRUTH?!

well back then in "old hollywood glamour," award shows were not televised and people only saw what happened behind closed doors in photos, why can't they do that instead? you know have the guests walk down the red carpet, then off to an untelevised ceremony. or is that still "crossing the picket line""

this really sucks because i would love to see what ms. marion coillitard (spelling?) wears down the red carpet. also i heard that armani designed a dress exclusively for cate blanchett. why does this have to happen when so many cool actors are nominated this year?

What I can tell you right now is that two different reliable sources received an e-mail from NBC today with that schedule of events for Sunday. That's as close to "the truth" as we have right now, but believe me, the second there's a press release from NBC or the Golden Globes or the WGA, we'll have it here.

Pinkflats-I think that would still be considered crossing the picket line. I read on another site that they were going to just have a press conference and announce the winners,(like Buzz said) since no one is going to show up, but then they decided to just cancel it all together, because...its pointless. And I agree, the only reason I watch these shows is to see everyone go down the read carpet looking fabulous(or not) I just hope this is all worked out before the Oscars, cause thats when the stars really bring out the big guns!

I've been told that most SAG actors wouldn't be attending those parties if there will be press inside the events, and many aren't interested in doing interviews with Dateline. Anyways, I hope NBC suffers severely in the ratings on Sunday.

Man, I really hate all this. Look forward to the dresses and such every year. Plus, my favorite- Johnny Depp - had a good chance of winning. This stinks!

This sucks because the Golden Globes is my fav one!!! They always seem to have so much fun and everyone is relaxed and just out to enjoy the evening and have a good time. The SAG is also a second runner up good time. The Oscars are just too long, boring, and stuffy!

i agree hottstuff, the golden globes always seem to be so relaxed, but that could be people actually drink alcohol during the ceremony so yes that would loosen people up fo' sho'. lol.

and allourregrets, i agree that it would pointless if the 70 nominees won't attend. but i also heard that the show is being produced by dick clark's production company, which is independently owned just like Letterman's production company, and they also tried to talk with WAG and compromise the way they did with Letterman but the WAG turned the offer down. can someone confirm this? because if so, that sucks because i'm sure dick clark and his company means no harm or ill-intentions to the WAG. whatever let this strike be over, dammit!!!

pinkflats — that's true, Dick Clark Productions and the WGA did try to negotiate. As of now, all of the proposals have been turned down by the WGA. I'm not sure if they're still talking, but they're definitely running out of time!

LAME. so lame. why give them out at all? no one should be awarded for not crossing the picket lines. it just seems like a betrayal to all of the fans that got them there in the first place. I find it extremely selfish of them to not put aside their differences for ONE night, so that all the people that pour their hard earned money into the entertainment business can enjoy themselves...

The thing is that if NBC didn't televise the Golden Globes, then WGA wouldn't picket and SAG members would attend. WGA and SAG have said that they aren't against the Hollywood Foreign Press but against NBC, who would get ad revenue when they air the Golden Globes.

SAG's contract with the AMPTP is up in June, so, of course, they're backing the WGA... they want a fair deal, too. It's solidarity.

elmendoa, are you serious? I would personally NEVER respect anyone who crossed those picket lines.

If the writers gave in and supported the Golden Globes they would be hurting themselves. By refusing the deal with Dick Clarks company, they showed that they won't hesitate to do the same with the Oscars which is a HUGE source of ad revenue for the network, and a way for AMPTP companies create buzz around their films, which help them do better in DVD sales.

This isn't a way of punishing their fans. Fans should be supporting the people responsible for coming up with the scripts for their favorite tv shows and films.

I'm sorry that they consider the jobs of thousands of people more important than you getting to look at dresses.

if they think their jobs are so bad why don't they do something else? most of the stuff on tv is horrible. if the girls next door never films another episode will we really be worse off? to bad the people who write the commercials aren't striking, lol.

lickety split- WGA currently only covers scripted television (and movie) writers. Shows like Girls Next Door are considered non-scripted shows thus WGA members are not at fault for. However, while WGA is on strike, more non-scripted shows will go on, no matter how bad they are.

WGA members don't think that their jobs are bad; most of them would love to be back at work, but what they're fighting for, what they're striking for affects not only their future but future writers too.

This seems okay to me. I find the whole awards show format to be incredibly boring. I'm not interesting in seeing any retrospectives/photo montages or the hosts acting in some silly clips. I just want to find out who won the darn award.

sadly i would rather watch the Dateline NBC show as opposed to an actual awards ceremony. sorry, golden globes.

As much as I love celebrity culture/news from hollywood, a part of me kinda likes the low-keyness of the Golden Globes just being a conference announcing the winners.

Plus it is less resource draining

I'm with you, tralalala. I completely support the writers, and I think it is absolutely necessary that they get a favorable agreement NOW.

Since the awards recognize excellent work done this past year, the argument to not hand them out "to punish the actors for punishing the fans" makes no sense to me.

Also, this has happened once before. From the Associated Press: "When the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists were on strike in 1980, only one winner — Powers Booth — showed up to collect his trophy."

tralala- i am not concerned about not being able to see celebrities. what i think is ridiculous is all of the people who are losing their JOBS because of Hollywood GREED. you imply that writers write because they love to entertain, no, they write because they like to make money! and this strike proves it.

trust me, i go back and forth. i am not against people getting what they deserve. what i am against, is peoples own selfish greed and stubbornness.

i think the viewers should go on strike!
