Defend This Show: Medium

NBC's Medium is one of those shows that just never grabbed me. It's an intriguing premise, and Patricia Arquette has gotten a fair amount of acclaim (and one Emmy) for her performance as psychic Allison DuBois. But I've never felt compelled to tune in.

But now the writers' strike is upon us, and Medium is returning tonight with all-new episodes. So, all you Medium fans, it's time for you to defend your show to disbelievers like me and tell us why it's time to tune in.

Check out this video for a refresher of what happened in last season's finale — and then it's on your mark, get set, defend!

Not crazy for the blood and gore which get to CSI-in-your-face, but what I love about this show are the relationships between the various characters: Allison with her husband, with her kids, with her co-workers. To me, it's actually a relationship show. I love the husband and wife: they're in love, they're crazy for each other, they make each other crazy. It's all very human and warm and reassuring. And it's hard not to love that Patricia Arquette is a real-sized woman on tv...

I had a hard time with Allison & Joe's chemistry at first, but it's improved 110% in my opinion. I like this show the most because of the crimes they're trying to solve, but the kids come a close second - particularly Bridgette. She just plain cracks me up.

I do have to admit the endings have let me down lately, but I've still got it as a series recording on my DVR.

Buzz, maybe you should give it another try. I wasn't that impressed at first, but it got a lot better.

I agree. The show is about relationships, it's way better than CSI that way. I have watched it from the start and it really has gotten a lot better. There were a few weird storylines last season, but I cannot wait to see it tonight!

    I love this show...

I enjoy that it is a crime show with better formed characters than you normally get in this genre.

I like how Allison's "visions-gift" has never seemed hokey to me. That alone is a miracle to pull off.

Plus that story arc last season with Jason Priestly and Neve Campbell was out standing! If one was trying to decide to watch this show... I would go look for those 3 episodes to really see how well this show is written and acted.

I really like the little girls in this show. They're like their mom in so many ways, but their dad is molding them into "normal" kids. I like the genetic aspect of it to see what the kids are going to pick up with their parents. I love Joe/Allison relationship because it's more real than most on tv.

You have to give this show credit for knowing what it's good at and what it needs to work on. I think the reason many people enjoy this show is the family at its center. Except for her psychic abilities, Allison is a normal woman and a normal mom. She's attractive but not overly glamorous. She dresses like a real person, appropriately for her job and her home life. Her husband is normal. They deal with money issues. The kids are normal (minus their own burgeoning psychic abilities). They look like real kids and worry about the kinds of issues real kids worry about, like boys and fitting in. I liked this show right from the start, but felt it started to get too formulaic and predictable. Allison has a dream that doesn't make sense; Allison has more dreams and slowly pieces it all together. The solution? Change things up. In the season finale it was revealed to the public that Allison is the DA's on-call pyschic, putting her, her family, and the DA's office in a very precarious position. The writers seemed to have realized things were getting too predictable so they threw in an interesting monkey wrench. I respect their ability to respond to criticism and try to re-invigorate the concept and I look forward to giving this new season a chance.

I love this show. Patricia Arquette plays like a real mom, not a tv mom. And she and the husband seem like a real relationship. It is a really good show. Of course my favorite parts are her dreams and how they end up in the story, it isn't always direct. It can be more like a puzzle. I think some of my favorite episodes are when her brother is in the show also. A very good show, so happy it is back with new episodes.

Every time I watch this show I get scared. Its the only form of horror I can take. But the story lines are always so personal and its interesting to see a crime solving show that delves into the characters life so intricately. It adds all the mundane details of everyday life along with crazy psycho killers. I love this show. LOVE IT! If you have ever seen 'the ghost whisperer' this is like that but a whooooole lot better and scarier.

keiren63 described it exactly right. This show IS more about relationships than anything. Allison DuBois is a very loyal employee of the police station she works for and she's very loyal to the victims that she helps beyond the grave. But yes, my favorite part is also her relationship with her husband and her family. It really IS the most REAL family relationship I've seen on TV in a while. It's literally like they're married in real life and they just ask them to be themselves on the show.

I also enjoy the mystery aspect of this show when it comes to solving the crimes. I really enjoyed this show when it was on and I'm so happy that it's coming back. I'll be tuning in for sure and you should too!

I agree completely with what others have written. I love this show for the personal connections and relationships, as well as the fear factor. The stories are usually suspenseful enough to get you thinking, but not too gory to sicken you. I'm excited the show is back!

Ok, this is a LITTLE off topic, but it's been making me crazy!! What song is being played during the commercials?! I remember it from trailers for the movie The Beach (definitely wracked the pop culture files in my brain to remember that one!). Anyone (Buzz?) know the song?

This is by far my favorite TV show with my favorite actress who I was fortunate to meet on Monday of this week at her autograph signing in New York. She was so gracious, friendly and beautiful. She made you feel like you were the only one in the room, posed for pictures with you and didn't rush you.
