Heroes Rundown Chapter 8: "Four Months Later"

After reading Tim Kring's profuse apologies for the second season of Heroes, I absolutely couldn't wait to be redeemed by last night's episode. While this chapter was definitely one of the best of the second season, I have to admit that for me it came just a little bit too late. That said, we finally arrived at the moment we'd all been waiting for and found out what happened during the four months between last season's finale and this season's premiere.

The episode was jam-packed with new information so to get right into it (with lots of spoilers of course), just read more

  • A major theme of this episode was in the Heroes deciding if they really wanted their powers or wanted to keep them under control. Niki and Peter both flush their pills down the drain, but in the end Niki wants to be under control. D.L. also finally realizes what it's like to be recognized as an everyday hero, only to get killed like one. Somehow his death was even more depressing than many of Sylar's murders.
  • So we finally get a little taste for Angela Petrelli's power — she can convince people to do what she wants. Did anyone else get a little voodoo/witch vibe when she was creepily stroking Heidi's hair and face?
  • I was glad to see how the Wonder Twins first realized their powers (and Alejandro's new bride kinda deserved what she got), but I have to say that until Maya's death tears get less creepy or more more interesting, I'm still not loving these two.
  • So we never get actual confirmation that Elle is Bob's daughter, but that seemed fairly obvious, right? I hated the way she treated Peter like a toy but thought it was great when he turned the tables on her. She does get a few points for giving him a haircut though, that long floppy mop needed to go.
  • So Elle zapped Peter, forcing him to run around shirtless for another episode. Not that I'm complaining.
  • Every time I think the Haitian is one of the bad guys, he always turns around and proves me wrong. Also, I'm wondering how he ended up back in Haiti after setting Peter free. Plus, Elle refers to the power-controlling pills as "Haitian pills" but the Haitian ends up getting sick.
  • Watching Nathan all burnt to a crisp in the hospital room was absolutely heartbreaking. Is anyone else wondering if there's a connection between his alcoholism and the binge drinking Kensei we saw at the beginning of the season? I know that Nathan's life took a pretty bad turn after he lost Peter, but it still seems interesting that he suddenly took to drinking after getting Adam's blood.
  • So Adam has been alive for 400 years and hasn't changed a bit. Does this mean Claire will live forever too? And Peter, for that matter?
  • I can't believe I never considered the possibility of Niki having more personalities than Jessica before, and I'm wondering if Gina has any special powers beyond being a party girl and getting people killed.
  • So Peter is off to save the world again, but what will it entail? It seems a lot more complex this time around than just saving the cheerleader.

I was really excited about this episode and happy to finally know what happened. I really hate Elle, I feel like she serves no purpose but I digress. I liked finding out more about Kensei/Adam and how Peter met him. I was so sad about DL, I agree it was more depressing than all the other murders that have happened. I can't wait to see how things pan out!

ok first of all, I love this show.

Second, I hate Veronica Mars ( I know her name is Elle but I refuse to call her that) She's a #orny little thing huh? I also have a lil hate in my heart for Adam cause I know he's out to get Heroe.

It was creepy seeing Nathan like that! I am so glad he's back but I wonder if he knows Peter helped him.

I blame Nikki for her husbands death, all she had to do was take the pills!!!

The Twins, well, they're starting to bore me.

Lastly, Though I'm glad "The Haitian" finally got to speak! I really wish they would give him a real name already.

My bro is really mad about the death of DL. He say that it was so unnecessary, so dumb, so uncool.

All points that Elle is the out-of-control daughter of Bob. But it would have been cool if Adam turns out to be her father (for all we know, he can be the parents of all of them, he's more than 400 years old.)

We already discuss the possibility that Mama Petrelli had the power of persuasion like Eden (and that if Noah Bennet has a power, could be the power of learning fast like Charlie)

So, Nikki REALLY has problems, poor lady.

WE didn't see what happens to The Bennets in those four months or did I miss a part of the show??

I am ashamed to say this (because, I am a twin and I was very excited to see a twins in Heroes), but yeah, the story of the twins is lame. Hopefully it would turn out to be more than meets the eye.

So now we know what happened between Seasons 1 and 2! I can see why Tim Kring has been apologizing so much for this season. But even though most of us were scratching our heads during Season 2, I think leaving questions open for so long was a gutsy move from a creative standpoint.

i am SOOOOO bored with the wonder twins....so far, they've done nothing awesome, it's always the same. blah.

i kept waiting for DL to get killed....thought it would be the house fire, but when the creepy guy shot him, it was all too tragic. i loved him second-most (blame residual buffy obsessions).

and i swear, the haitian is the best character. my boyfriend and i have decided he's like a quadruple agent, because he works for the company, and HRG, and who knows what else...he just does whatever he feels like. love it.

i swear, micah's grandmother has to be able to do something....she just looks like she should be able to!!!

I always wondered why the bullets could hurt DL. I mean he can make things pass through him or make himself pass through other objects, so why not let the bullet pass through like that guy's fist in yesterday's episode? It doesn't really make sense to me.

This was one of my favorite episodes! I think I'm liking Adam better than Sylar as a bad guy. You knew from the beginning Sylar was evil. Adam is a harder read. I really enjoyed the interactions between him and Peter. Question though: Who or what is he saving the world from? The Company? Peter went to the future and found out about the virus but Adam wouldn't know that.

Poor Micah and DL! Nikki was completely irresponsible and thinking of no one but herself when she flushed those pills. She has no one to blame for her ruined family but herself. Did she think schizophrenia just disappears?

Elle and the twins are growing on me. What a crazy/sociopathic couple Elle and Sylar would make!

i think adam is just feeding peter a line when he says they're going to save the world. didn't we find out in a previous episode that adam was the one who started the company with linderman? so would that mean that adam's (with peter's help) trying to take down what he created? or maybe adam's just using peter for his powers...

bob = possible child of satan
adam = possibly, almost definitely good. but definitely beautiful. Smiling
peter = i forgot how much i didn't miss the old haircut
elle = poor woman, locked up for sixteen years. and i thought my sexual frustration was bad.
    wondertwins = still don't care
    jessica/nikki/whoever-she-is-now = loosing interest

me = really upset that we have three episodes left, but trying to have a positive attitude. this episode rocked my face off. pausing the DVR was necessary for processing.

our biggest "pause" moment came at the beginning, when we realized that Bob was evil - aka, he was manufacturing the Shanti virus and was giving it to Peter and Adam slowly in pill form.

that show didn't answer a freakin thing!
1.) it didn't show what happened with Matt Parkman (his wife was pregnant and I guess he found out it wasn't his and then he adopted? Molly?)
2.) the Bennets were totally left out
3.) didn't show how Mohinder and HRG formed their plan together
4.) and why didn't it show more of the conversations btwn Adam and Peter??? I would have LOVED to hear like "I'm 400yrs old and I've been doing this and this and this since feudal Japan"

...instead they totally wasted time with the creepy 'wonder twins' which I still don't know or care what their purpose is...and had to show DL getting killed---sadness I could have done w/o...this episode left me empty

So here's my thing: Peter has been in contact with the Haitain so why doesn't he have the Haitain's powers? He might have them but we haven't seen him use them yet... I just don't understand why Peter didn't immediately start blocking the Haitains power right back! I guess I also don't understand why Peter couldn't fly himself into the sky the night he blew up... Come on Peter! Harness those powers!

I keep wanting to believe that Adam is good... He said they locked him up 30 years ago, and I'm wondering if he is really the one behind all the deaths. I have a hard time believing he is because of Hiro's dad. Why would he have had Hiro's dad killed when Hiro wasn't even around? If he really wanted revenge wouldn't he have waited until he could see Hiro's face? Also, when Hiro's dad got killed he said something like "Of everyone that could of come, I never expected to see you" to the guy who killed him. That doesn't sound like a one or 2 man operation (2 being Adam and Maury- Matt's dad).

I also think maybe the Company is bad. My fiance doesn't agree- he says they are good and just have a really tough job to do but it doesn't ad up to me. Why couldn't Peter see his family? They could at least let them come to see him locked up, but Bob didn't even allow that.

I don't think Elle is Bob's daughter. In Buzz's interview with Kristen Bell she says her character was just raised by the company. I don't think that means that Bob is technically her father. If she went to live with the company at 6 years old she still would remember her original family and father...

The next 3 episodes better be awesome! I'm expecting some serious answers....

I was actually pleasantly surprised with this episode. While I love Heroes, this season has been lacking and I have stopped watching before the end of a couple episodes. This one finally felt like old heroes. So is Adam really good now? I can't see that being true. I would love him to be, however, I feel like he is going to use Peter. I loved the DL story. It brought reality to a scifi show when a lot of times there is no sense of the real world. But did that guy really shoot him just because he took Nikki away? Seems a little over kill on that one. I agree with buzz, I'm not really into the whole Maya story, hopefully it ends this season. I miss the old Sylar and think they either need to change his story line or get rid of him. Who's evil? Who's good? Everyone has their own agendas and it's definitely not a black and white kind of thing. Also, I love Kristen Bell, but she seems to be over acting a bit. I do feel some pity for Elle and her life but they need to develope her story of get rid of it also. I think the finale is going to get rid of a few unnecessary characters. Hopefully..

Kitten6500, Peter can't steal the Haitian's powers because "power-stealing" is Peter's power and that's turned off when he's around the Haitian. That's my best guess, anyway.

And I completely agree with sumnboutme and Martini Rossi: having a split personality is not a super power. I keep having this discussion with my husband, who had a decent counterargument by saying that "When she's Jessica, she's like the Incredible Hulk." Okay. Sure. But now that she's NOT ALWAYS JESSICA, I'm back to having a split personality is not a super power. Especially because being an LA club kid is not a super power in any universe . . . well, unless your Sam AKA Metroman on Beauty and the Geek.

I'm in the minority here, but I like Elle. Lots.

The twins are boring the sh*t out of me.

Love love LOVE Adam/David Anders. That man is pure perfection. Glad the whole Japan storyline is done.

Niki does have powers (super strong). But she's also crazy. For reals.

The Petrelli's are the best part about this show.

Ok, so Nikki doesn't have any powers, she is just super crazy... (and have super strength and ability to break and kick things), wait... does super strength count as a power? (no, every blondie with nice body can break a wall, chez..)

I don't think Bob is bad, maybe he is just trying to get the cure (or not a cure, but something to weak some powers) because, as we see, there are powers very very dangerous (like the black tears, the nuclear explosion, eerr.. sylar), and he thinks they need to control those powers. And I think he will do whatever to find that thing that help him control some powers (maybe his psyco daughter).

We already know that Nikky can be strong without Jessica (or that drugged chick), but, anyhow, Nikki has multiple personalities, she's loony (and her power is super strength).

I thought Niki's power was super-strength? Like how she's always throwing people around and knocking down doors?

I wish they would have shown what happened to Sylar in this past 4 months. How did he get from the Mexican rainforest to passed out in the road in front of the Wonder Twins' car?

Did Adam really live 400 years, or did he absorb Hiro's power to time-travel, just like he absorbed his ability to heal?

adam didn't absorb the ability to heal (where would he have gotten that from... his power showed up way back in feudal japan). he must be able to survive forever. i want to like adam but i'm so scared that he's gonna hurt hiro who is my favorite character Sad

nikki has dissociative identity disorder. who knows how many personalities will emerge. and yeah, her power is super strength

aww i'm sad that DL died too

is that all mama petrelli's power is? convincing people?

    elle is crazy. lol

For some reason I thought Hiro had the power to heal himself like Claire....hmmm. Where did I get that from? Hiro can't absorb other people's powers like Peter can. Maybe I was getting them confused. anyway...

I also don't get why the guy's punch could go through DL's head and not hurt him, but a bullet can kill him. According to the Heroes Wikipedia: "D. L. is also able to use his powers defensively, allowing objects such as bullets to simply pass through him, as seen in "Fallout". However, he has not demonstrated an ability to "phase out" objects that are already lodged deep inside of him." So DL was shot before and lived, but this time he died?

So if Adam/Takezo can live forever....can Claire live forever too?

i don't understand why DL didn't just let the bullet pass through, because he definitely had the same amount of notice he did for the punch earlier. the guy held the gun up to him for at least 2 seconds before he pulled the trigger.

Nikki has the super strength all the time, Jessica just was enraged about her father killing her and just crazy in general so she was able to harness the power better than Nikki. i mean what would normal Nikki do with super strength?

also if Adam knows that his blood will heal people (a la Nathan), why didn't the company use his blood in the first place to cure the virus? well i guess they just want to eliminate the powers altogether, they don't care if the heroes live or die.

i don't know what to think about Hiro's father's death, but it looks like we'll know in the next 3 episodes since it looks like Hiro tries to travel back to save his dad. so maybe by his traveling back to save his dad actually caused his dad's death?

also, what happened to the Irish chick Caitlyn? Peter just ended up leaving her in the future where the virus kills pretty much everyone. so if they change the future and the virus doesn't kill everyone, where will Caitlyn end up? is she just lost in some sort of space/time hole or something?

Woah! Why are so many people still confused about Niki's power? That was one question that had a definite answer last night. Sometimes when powers manifest it's too much for someone to handle so the mind compensates by forming another personality (I guess one who can better deal with the changes). Niki was under extreme distress when her power (super strength) came to manifest, so her mind fractured and created Jessica as an outlet for her powers.

Oh, Adam's gonna be a baddie alright. Curing Nathan was a great way to earn Peter's trust.

I appreciate some background info on the Wonder Twins. I still hope they get knocked off the show soon.

Elle is an interesting character. Kristen Bell doesn't impress me much as an actress, but she does have a juicy character.

I don't know about Adam yet...I thought he was bad, but maybe he's good. Maybe he does little good deeds but he's overall a bad hero? I'm eager to see him stick around, like Elle.
