Bad Idea of the Week: Ferris Bueller's Day Off 2

What's almost worse than making remakes of beloved '80s films? Making sequels to beloved '80s films! Especially when it's a sequel to a John Hughes movie that might be made 21 years after the first one and probably won't be directed by Hughes himself.

That's right, folks, apparently screenwriter Rick Rapier has written the script for Ferris Bueller 2: Another Day Off in which Bueller, now 40 years old, has turned his motto "Life Moves Pretty Fast" into a self-help motivational career with his buddy Cameron managing the thriving business.

Rapier provided TampaBay.com blog, StuckInThe80s, with a copy of the script which they deemed "a blast." The blog is now claiming that fans of the original would love a sequel.

To check out the sequel's plot details and more, read more

The plot is this: "Despite his phenomenal success, Ferris is a bit distracted on his 40th birthday (which, considering his massive fame, is being watched on pay-per-view TV by millions of devoted fans). He decides to take the day off, sending Cameron, his business associates and family into a frenzy." Rapier reportedly wants all the original actors to come back to reprise their roles, and has included each of them in the sequel's story:

  • Ferris' sister Jeannie (Jennifer Grey) is married to the boy she met in the police station (Charlie Sheen).
  • No longer a school administrator, [Principal] Rooney is still stalking Ferris for revenge.
  • The economics teacher played by Ben Stein now is an airline gate representative.
  • Ferris' girlfriend Sloane Peterson (Mia Sara) is a Hollywood star going through a rough marriage.
  • But what is a John Hughes movie without John Hughes? As Cinematical points out, he's never once directed a movie he didn't write and it's hard to imagine he'd start now with Another Day Off.

What do you think? Would you like to see a sequel to Ferris Bueller's Day Off?

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

I honestly can't see all of the original actors coming back for this one. Besides, Principal Rooney will never be the same in my back after getting busted for child porn in real life. And what about GRACE????? Where does she fit in the sequel?

    GRAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!

NO. Why do these people have to take something good and funny and try to milk it for all it's worth? Can't something just be left alone? It's like the Geico cavemen getting a tv show. Just leave it alone...let the commercials be funny on their own. The minute the public responds to something favorably, it's like they have to jump on it and really shove it down our throats.

As much as I love the idea of "catching up" with Ferris, I don't see how they could do him justice. It just wouldn't be the same and would feel very pathetic (like they're just doing it for the money)...

    A THOUSAND TIMES NO!

And you know what's just as bad? Re-making British shows. They're on the same language, JUST WATCH THE BRITISH VERSION AND STOP RUINNING THEM BY REMAKING THEM.

I'm looking at you, guy remaking "Life on Mars" and "State of Play".

Yep, definitely bad idea. The worse thing you could ever ever do is to spoil the reputation of the show. Is Hollywood lacking of movie ideas, with all the adaptations they're coming up with?

I think the premise sounds interesting - and I would love to 'catch up' with the gang - but without John Huges, it looses everything!

I wonder if the same actors would be in this movie... probably not. Like when they made Dumb and DumberER... they used completely different people. Who are these idiots in Hollywood making these bad decisions? I know, HOW ABOUT A NEW ORIGINAL IDEA for a movie? eh? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Of course only if they could get the original cast. I wonder how they would handle Jennifer Grey's new nose.

I think it might not be that bad as long as they get the same cast.Charlie Sheen and Matthew Broderick though probably wouldn't want to do it though since they still careers.

No way. Has anyone seen Mia Sara since her days as Sloane. I used to covet that white leather jacket of hers. Ha!

Why would they do something like this?! I don't think Broderick would go for it anyway...

Oh my goodness...NO NO...Please leave Ferris ALONE. This is a classic that we all still watch till this day. Ferris will always be young, and he will always be Matthew Broderick too us. Don't mess this up.

Every generation looks at this movie. It old fun that teens can watch that has no killing or bad things happening while Ferris is skipping school. Let it go people.

    LEAVE Ferris Bueller ALONE

If... and I am saying "IF"... John Hughes decided he wanted to revisit Ferris... I would be thrilled. Plus Hughes is probably the only person who could get the principal cast to reunite. It could be interesting... but only if Hughes is the man that decided to do it.
