"Sex and the City" Movie Gets the Green Light

After plenty of hedging and hinting, we now have an official report that the makers of HBO's hit series "Sex and the City" will make a feature-length movie based on the show. Production is scheduled to begin in the fall. The article continues:

Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon are all set to reprise their roles, with longtime exec producer Michael Patrick King directing a script he wrote.

The film got close to happening about two years ago, but progress halted when Cattrall backed away. She wanted script controls and a salary close to that of Parker, who was more highly paid than the others because she was co-executive producer of the series. Whatever tensions existed are gone now, sources said. Cattrall has a deal she’s happy with, one the sources said gives her input on her scenes, a fat salary and a future series deal with HBO.

No news yet on whether other actors from the show (ahem, Chris Noth) will be back for the movie, but I'll keep you posted. Here's hoping the movie version comes out well and doesn't taint the fond memories I have of the original series!

I really really hope they don't mess it up. A movie could be great...or terrible...

I agree. I think it would have worked better if they did it earlier, but I adored the show so I'm hoping for the best!

Wow....fingers crossed that they don't mess it up. I will be mad if they do that they didn't just leave well enough alone. Can't wait.

Hmm, I LOVE SATC but the series has been gone for 3 years. I'd rather love it for what it was than risk a movie ruining it.

I'm sorry but if Big, Smith, Harry and Steve aren't there I don't think it will be a good movie. Those guys are now as much a part of SATC as the girls and New York are, to me at least. I just hope that they do not ruin the series by making a crappy movie. Or trying to do something more of the moment than going classic SATC.

Ooh I'm excited. I just hope it turns out to be good. These movies can be a little tricky-not always like the show. Anyhow, I've got high hopes!!!

I agree with fashionhore. For those who watched the very first season on, you need Big, Smith Harry and Steve. Esp Big. Half the shows story line is around Big!

They need to hurry it up, because I was a die-hard fan and my interest in wanning. I was so excited then they pulled the plug, stop talking about it, just make the movie already.

Great news--if they can pull off a quality film. Just wish they had been able to do this earlier; the time lag may be a factor in the success (or failure) of the project.

Why can't this just be an HBO movie? A theatrical release seems like a really bad idea. I IDOLIZED this show! But it's been so long since it left the air that an HBO project would seem to make more sense...

OMg carrie is the main character. without her, the show wouldn't have a narrator or main story line.

I think they should've just left it as it was. It just seems like they're all doing it for the money now.

I hope that they continue with the story line... like where they were going to have the ladies' lives lead once the series ended. Carrie and Big getting married, Charlotte going to china to adopt, etc. etc. I have very high hopes!

I'm a huge fan of the show but I kinda don't want to see a movie made. I mean years have passed and so has my grief at the loss of the show. More importantly though I think they ended the series perfectly and I really don't want it ruined by a movie!!Sad

I'll definitely go see this flick. I'm a little nervous though - so much time has passed and the series finale was good on its own. I bet they can get all the old "guys" to join in - none of them have had overwhelming success since the show.

I hope that everyone from the cast, such as Steve, and Magda can all make it back as well. This is my all time fave show. And I want it to pick up where it left off.

It's too late! Let the show close with dignity.

I would have liked it better without Kim Catrall, because she's annoyingly too over the top. But if Big isn't there, then why even bother?

They better not screw it up, yet here I am complaining that 6 seasons is not enough:P I guess we'll see soon enough - I'm really curious as to what direction they'll go in being that they wrapped up all the story lines very nicely in the finale.
