In Retrospect, Did We Need a Fourth Indiana Jones Movie?

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull will be released on DVD this week and I'm curious whether, with a little distance, you're feeling warmer or colder to it, or totally the same. There was a lot of excitement when it was first released over the Summer, but now that some time has passed, do you feel differently? Are you thankful for this addition to the franchise or do you think Spielberg and gang should have left well enough alone?

well i have to admit that i've never seen an indiana jones movie until this one and i was pleasantly surprised - although it did feel a lot like national treasure (of which i've seen both). i think that it was ok that they brought it back, but i'm not sure that they'll do it justice to do any more. i think that that shia was good for this one but others - nah - he doesn't have the same panache as harrison.

Despite what South Park says, I liked the movie and it wasn't till the whacked out ending (which when you think about it is about as whacked out as the Temple of Doom's ending) that I kinda was left wondering what the hell the writers were smoking.

It was far better than any of the Star Wars prequels.

Since Indiana Jones 4 didn't live up to the rest of the Indy films in any respect, I'd have to say no on a 5th one. It was a big let down.

No, and i echo the South Park boys when saying it was like watching an old friend get raped.

No no noooo! I like the old ones but this one was just silly. The CGI Gopher? WTF?! And the end was just stupid.

Hahaha! Apparently, plenty of other people saw that episode of South Park!

The movie wasn't good. Was it the worst movie of all time? No. But the aliens, the son (a bad part for which Shia LeBeouf was a bad choice, IMO) and the fairytale ending were just too cliche for my tastes.

George Lucas made two decent franchises, but through his own greed, has sucked them both dry and ruined them instead of creating more original material. He's just lost his touch.

It was SO LAME. That said, I wasn't really a fan of the other ones either, so maybe I just don't get it.

This movie sucked and was a complete insult to the originals (well...at least Raiders and Crusade.) I was actually really, REALLY angry after I saw it. It nuked the fridge. Big time.

I pretty much agree with Kyle, Stan and the other South Park kids about the movie. Luca$ and $pielberg need to stop "raping" previous masterpieces just to gain a quick buck.

Indiana Jones 4 was nowhere NEAR as good as the original trilogy. It was a huge disappointment in my opinion. It was not terrible...but it wasn't good either.

    I mean seriously, ALIENS?

I loved the first 3 Indiana Jones movies. Yeah, ridiculous and impossible things happened but they were entertaining. But the fourth one sucked big time! I was fine with it up until they brought in aliens. It was ridiculous. Sometimes I wonder when these Hollywood peeps are in the process of writing, producing and editing movies do they really not see how completely stupid it is? It's really too bad cause it SHOULD have been a great movie...

The beginning was amazing and it made me think that this film was going to be just like the old films which I love, but then the story slowed down (right around the time they landed in S. America).

The CGI absolutely killed the film, cue Shia Labeouf swinging through the "jungle" with his new monkey friends.... and, um, apparently Steven Spielberg has a mild obsession with aliens. But, seriously, "knowledge is greatest treasure in the universe" is perhaps the lamest outcome of a movie I have seen in a long while.

Verily's right though -- it's still not worse than the Star Wars prequels.

    No way.
I tried to be positive, but the more I think about it, the more I think it sucked rocks.

no way... it didn't ruin the other films for me, but it was disappointing.
