Would You Watch a TV Version of 10 Things I Hate About You?

I was a fan of 10 Things I Hate About You, the 1999 Taming of the Shrew update that starred Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger. But could a TV series based on the story also be great — or would that be taking things too far?

ABC Family is looking to find out, as they've just picked up a pilot for a potential series based on the movie. This one would focus more on the sisters, according to Zap2it:

Both girls attend Padua High and must juggle their social lives, boys and their over-protective dad, but approach life differently. Kat is impatient to make a difference in the world, is strong-willed and a feminist, while Bianca is more concerned with her looks and popularity.

Would you be interested in a TV version of this story?

I loved the movie but I think I loved the play, The Taming of the Screw even more. I think it could be a great tv show.

My level of interest would be directly related to how far they deviate from the movie plotline. I'd want it to find its own legs instead of drawing mainly from the movie.

NO!!!! it is such a touchstone as a movie, don't ruin it by trying to squeeze a few dimes out of a half-assed, poorly cast, dumbed-down teen sitcom. it's insulting.

If they brought Andrew Keegan on for a cameo or something, I would die from extreme love.

I loved the movie, but I don't know how it would translate into a TV show. Their made-for-TV prequel to Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion looked awful, and the pilot of Greek sucked so I never got into that show. I only watch ABC Family for their reruns (Gilmore Girls, Full House) and their 25 Days of Christmas specials.

I would really prefer that they didn't. I LOVE this movie... in fact it was the first thing that I watched after Heath died Sad (RIP!) I would check out an episode just to see what was going on, but I doubt that it would have the same charm as the movie

i ADORE this movie. out of love for it, i will certainly tune in for an episode or two. but ONLY to complain about how different they are from the movie. i will then hate it from then on. unless they pull some very magic stuff from somewhere. but i absolutely don't expect it. AT ALL. great movie. hope they don't screw it into the ground like "they" do with everything lol

forgot to mention, my love for this movie has nothing to do with the fact that Heath died. Sad, very sad. And he will be missed. Of course. but don't try to shield everything he ever did from remake or other scrutiny. that's just silly sugar-folk. it won't work, so give up and like/dislike things for their merit. MERIT Eye-wink

nah - i don't think so. the problem that i have with shows that are made from movies is that i will ALWAYS picture the actors from the movie in the show and i can't adapt. knowing that one of the starts can't be in it - well i wouldn't want someone else to reprise that role or a role similar to it.

No! BLASPHEMY!!! This film wouldn't be the same without Heath Ledger, and also the fact it's soooo 90s.

Actually I would find it difficult to watch it without being reminded of Heath Ledger's performance in the movie. Heartbreaking!

This is one of my favorite teen movies from when I was actually a teen. The show would have been great 10 years ago and with the original cast. Honestly it isn't a bad concept for a show, but (1) I don't know that ABC family would do it right and (2) don't connect it to the movie, just say it is about two young sisters that couldn't be more different juggling things in their lives w/ a single over-protective dad. That could be anything, doesn't need to bring our beloved movie into it.

No! The 90's has gone. It would be just like 90210, it was perfect in its decade, but it sucks now. This decade, overall sucks compared to the 90's, anyway.

Oh please don't... This movie defines what my teenage years were like! And marked the start of my obsessive crush on Heath. I still listen to Letters to Cleo quite often because of this movie... My husband even quotes it!

If they want to do something based directly off Taming of the Shrew, go for it, but don't try to base it off of 10 Things... That's like drawing a comic based off a book that's based off a manga, too watered down. How many episodes could they really get out of it anyway?

Absolutely not! That movie is amazing, but that's mainly because it had the perfect cast. I mean.. could you imagine some half-wit teen from the ABC Family's list of nobody "actors" trying to replace Heath Ledger's breakout role (if they didn't leave that character out all together)? It's just wrong!

Leenie- Can you just be "whelmed?" Sticking out tongue
