"Drive" Death Watch: How Many Episodes Will It Get?

Fox's new serial drama, "Drive," airs its third episode tonight as part of a whirlwind three-hours-in-two-nights premiere. The show, which I think is the TV equivalent of a summer movie, has been heavily promoted by Fox, with commercials during "American Idol" and an interactive Web site.

However, it's been a tough season for serial dramas, with "The Nine," "Day Break," "Vanished," and others tanking after a few episodes. It's also been a tough few months for new shows in general: Witness the demise of "The Wedding Bells," "The Black Donnellys" and, most recently, "In Case of Emergency." Plus, creator Tim Minear has had two other series ("Wonderfalls" and "Firefly") canceled by Fox — and "Firefly" starred "Drive"'s leading man, Nathan Fillion.

Which leads me to ask: Will "Drive" be the rare breakthrough serial hit like "Lost" or "24"? Or will it land on the trash heap a few weeks from now?

Seriously, hasn't this been redone enough? I think it's based on an old movie, which was redone already, and now a series... yuck yuck yuck. only so many times you can rehash something! Given Fox's tendency to yank a show, I give it less than 5

I would love to see it get a full season. I'm not sure it could really last more than that given the shows premise. I mean they have to reach the finish line sometime right? But I gave it a try because I adore Nathan Fillion (yup, I'm a browncoat), and I will watch it again tonight because I actually enjoyed it. I generally don't watch many shows regularly (BAttlestar Galactica, Lost, Dresden Files, and Ghost Hunters are my only regular shows right now), but I will gladly add this fun gem to my lineup.

i'm really enjoying the show and would like to see where it goes. it may have been done before but i am enjoying the actors and their storylines. i'd like to see enough episodes where they can complete the story but more than one season is not necessary. fox just has a history of canceling good shows so i hope they give this one a chance. besides, it's a good lead-in for 24. I was very excited to watch this show and then when I saw it I was even more excited. It gets you to ask questions (which I love in a series). Plus with Nathan Fillion being there I love it even more! I really hope it gets a long run *crosses fingers*

I watched the show last night (and by watched, I mean I had it own while I played Nintendo DS and waited out the hour until "The Sopranos") and didn't think it was anything to write home about.

That said, I'm pretty much done with FOX. They're always quick to cancel shows, and that's especially bad when it's a show that requires you to watch the entire season to get closure - they won't even give it a proper ending ("Reunion" is a prime example). Of course, I'll stay watching my Jack Bauer and my Dr. House, but I'm very unwilling to pick up anything new the channel.

Well, I didn't get to see this show because I was watching Grindhouse again, but appearantly no one else watched it either! According to the final nationals the show peaked at the 8:00 half hour with about 6.4 million viewers and by the final half-hour, the overall viewers dwindled down to 5.6 million viewers. Shows that beat it - a repeat of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Dateline, and Amazing Race.

We'll see how it does tomorrow night. Doesn't look good for Nate Fillion - looks like the next time we see him after the impending cancellation of Drive will be a Lost flashback.

Hopefully, this show will be under five episodes. Can't tv writers think of anything new, intelligent, or interesting?

It seems like a fairly good show. But I bet it'll either get cancelled before the 7th episode.
