First Look: Valentine

The CW's new Sunday night programming block starts in early October, and of the four new shows, I'm most curious to check out Valentine, which is about a family of Greek gods who now live among us in a world where Mount Olympus is just off the freeway from LA's Laurel Canyon.

My reasons for being excited for the show are twofold: I've seen the whole "historical figures from such-and-such a time try to navigate modern society" concept work before (anyone else ever watch Clone High?), and I'm glad to see another alum of The OC — Autumn Reeser, in this case — get a job. There's also the whole thing of having Aphrodite, Eros, and Hercules shacking up together, which has the potential to be amusing, especially while they're living out their mission of helping everyday folks find love.

Of course, it also has the potential to be quite cheesy, and from the first promo, I can't tell for sure which way the show is leaning. There are some funny bits (Eros has foregone arrows in favor of a love gun), but there's also an over-the-top feeling about it all. It's enough to make me want to check out an episode, though. How about you? To watch the promo, just read more.

Could be cute, and I really liked Autumn Reeser in the O.C., so I'll definitely give it a try.

This sounds like its based on the book Gods Behaving Badly.
I never got around to actually reading the book but I will definitely tune in to see if this is any good.

Hahaha in my advanced television writing class, I pitched basically this same idea as a possible series. My professor told me the idea didn't have any "legs," it wouldn't carry a whole series, and he wouldn't let me write the pilot episode. I won't be watching this, and I imagine it won't last long, but I'm highly amused that someone "stole" my idea. Sticking out tongue

This is just like the "Gods Behaving Badly" book - which was pretty cute but not at all what I expected. Since I liked the book I will be checking this show out.....

i read about this show and i have to say that it seems to fit nicely with the other programs that are on the CW. i feel like it's not going to be AMAZING but that it'll draw the viewers that they are aiming for. i hope that it does well - i'm a champion for the network and i feel like it's just having a hard time finding it's niche with the larger networks out there.

This looks cute, I may give it a try. I love Kristoffer Polaha, but it seems like all of his shows get cancelled pretty quickly.
