Buzz In: What Are Your Favorite Made-for-TV Movies?

Made-for-TV-movies get a pretty bad rap, don't they? For many of us, that term makes us think of something completely melodramatic that has to do with modern damsels in distress. Many of them are like the TV version of those hilarious romance novels you see at the grocery store. But there are actually some great movies that fall into this category that I know lots of people love — even if they won't readily admit it.

For example, I was impressed with Lifetime's TV movie, Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy, which starred Sarah Chalke and was based on Geralyn Lucas's true story of her battle with breast cancer. The movie is pretty solid entertainment, and inspiring to boot. I also really liked Iron Jawed Angels, about suffragettes in America, as well as Angels in America (that cast!).

Of course, let's not forget that the High School Musical phenomenon started, for better of for worse, on the old tube as well.

What are your favorite made-for-TV-movies?

"Friends Forever" is the name, I think. It's the Vh1 tv-movie starring Shannon Dougherty (SP???) and some jealous, crazy girl who wants to steal her life.

I really like the ABC Family Christmas specials like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, The Year Without a Santa Claus, etc. and their original TV movies (especially the older ones) like The Christmas List, Three Days, etc. I also like the Disney Channel TV movies like Brink, Tower of Terror, Halloweentown, and High School Musical 2.

I haven't watched many Lifetime TV movies but I liked Murder in the Hamptons and Mom at Sixteen.

A Murder Among Friends. It's a Lifetime movie starring Tiffani Thiesen... so good!! Also, Britney Spears inspired movie that's occasionally on ABC Family something where the girl is a prestigious music school and sings britney at her audition. Lastly, the Coco Chanel movie last night on Lifetime was really good. I love Chanel even more now!!!

Really all those made for TV movies about the "troubled teens" I love. Movies like Augusta Gone and She's too Young are up there on my favs list. I'm completly addicted to the TV movies with those teens in trouble with drugs, sex, eating disorders, etc.

Not to be picky but I'm positive I remember watching Not Without My Daughter in the theater. I don't think it was made-for-tv. However, Sybil was a fantastic made-for-tv movie starring Sally Field. Smiling

I also loved that Shannen Doherty one Friends 'Til the End about the girl who tries to steal her life. Loved Jason London as the love interest. He was so cute!

I haven't seen it in forever, but does anyone else remember "Sarah Plain and Tall"? That was a good one. They also did "The Shinning" as a made for TV movie that was really good (not the one w/ Jack Nicklson).

Iron Jawed Angels was great, but it was actually about the first wave, not the second. First Wave- 19teens, Second Wave- 1960s, 3rd Wave- 1990s

I loved Alex: The Life of a Child, based on sportswriter Frank Deford's book on his daughter's battle with cystic fibrosis. I sobbed throughout and have been making donations to the cystic fibrosis foundation since.

as a kid, I loved "Bad Ronald" (where a boy wanted for murder lives in the crawlspace of his former house, and becomes obsessed with the new homeowner's lovely young daughter by watching her through a peephole in the wall). I also loved the Karen Black segment of "Trilogy of Terror," where a little voodoo doll comes alive and attacks her with a very big knife. Excellent!

    - The series: Sarah, Plain and Tall, Skylark and Sarah, Plain and Tall: Winter's End.
    - Halloweentown 1 and 2
    - Double, Double, Toil and Trouble (with MK and Ashley Olsen) Such a cute kids film for Halloween.
    - A Raisin in The Sun (2008)
    - Ordinary Miracles
    - Brink
    - Model Behavior (not sure why I like it however it's just fun to watch.)
    - Kelsey Grammer in A Christmas Carol (2004)

And there are probably a few others that I cannot recall at the moment.

I love all the cheesy, campy "Made-for-tv-but-based-on-actual-events" movies. What can I say. LOL

I watched every version of the Amy fisher story, all the movies on the Jon-benet story, even all the movies made that were "unauthorized". I don't put much weight on them, but it's entertaining to see what liberties hollywood will take with true life stories. Oh, let's not forget the Diane Downs story. That one, while pretty accurate, creeped me the f*** out!

My favorite is Angels in America for sure! Every year around Christmas I watch it and cry cry cry.
Also am a big fan of the Tori Spelling movies where she played a hooker or her bf was psycho. Also that Yasmine Bleeth movie where her face is all cut up "A Face To Die For" or the Kellie Martin one where she and that kid from Free Willy are druggies...
