Is That a Moldy Peaches Song I Hear in the Atlantis Commercial?

OK, look: we all gotta make a living, I understand that. But this commercial for the family resort Atlantis featuring the Moldy Peaches single "Anyone Else But You" is kind of crazy. The song was made famous by Juno and to many it will remain a delicate and simple love song that Paulie Bleeker (Michael Cera) and Juno (Ellen Page) sing to each other. Whenever I hear it I think of things like falling in love with your best friend, teenage crushes, loving someone warts and all, etc. You know what I don't think of? Swimming with dolphins and golfing.

This is the cheesy kicker: The commercial changes the lyrics to better suit a commercial aimed at getting families to go on fun-filled vacations in the Bahamas. For example, in the original song, the first phrase goes like this:

You're a part time lover and a full time friend/The monkey on you're back is the latest trend/I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else/But you.

And has been changed to the following for the commercial:

Let's go ride a couple of dolphins/Or maybe play tennis or do some golfin/Oh what a wonder/A wonderful world can be.

Sigh. To see the whole thing for yourself and let me know if this breaks your heart a little, read more.

No. No. No. That lyric change is ridiculously painful. Can almost kind of blindly cope with it being on an advert, but changing the words? No. Glad that it's not on UK TV... cringe.

Very idiotic campaign, and it sucks cause I was just at Atlantis; the need another marketing strategy, cause when I was there it was mostly young couples with kids under 5 and old folks...so...

I don't like it. I noticed it weeks ago and wondering whether I was hearing what I thought I was hearing or just going nuts. I also hate recent versions of other songs I like like "Time On My Side" by The Rolling Stones that I heard in commercials. They kind of ruin the songs for me and I don't like the singer's version.

I'd forgotten the song was used in Murderball a couple years ago, didn't get quite as much attention then.

I was disgusted when I saw this commercial. I loved the Juno song and I even had it as a ringtone for a while. Now when I hear it I get angry at the Atlantis people.

One of those cruise lines always uses "Lust for Life" by Iggy Pop, which I always found funny since it is all about sex and drugs - the editing out of the lyrics "with the liquor and the flesh machine" is painfully obvious.

I'm not a fan of moldy peaches, and I don't really think this is any big deal to change the lyrics for this. Seriously, they're an indie band that gained recognition in an indie movie - they probably got a decent paycheck from this, and now that Juno fever has calmed down this is reminding people of that catchy song we were hearing a few months back. With the music industry in the state its in nowadays, I'm not going to begrudge anyone for making money off of their song, as long as they aren't selling out their ideas. (Like, if Morrissey let a song be used in a commercial for burger king - THAT would be selling out.)

The boyfriend noticed this a couple weeks ago.
I was like, "No way! Can't be." Sure enough...
    It's pretty disappointing.

Aww this makes me sad. I mean I'm used to adverts using popular songs and that's fine, but I really hate when they change the lyrics especially when it's done in this way to feature attractions at the resort. I think music can be a powerful tool in advertising but I feel like they should use it the way it comes instead of bastardizing it into something weird and wrong

I never heard the song before so it doesn't bother me at all.
