The cutest robot to hit the screen in a long time, Wall-E, proved irresistible to audiences over the weekend, earning the top spot at the box office with an estimated $62.5 million. According to Variety, this is the third best opening for a Pixar film after The Incredibles ($70.5 million) and Finding Nemo ($70.2 million).

The Angelina Jolie-James McAvoy action flick Wanted nabbed the No. 2 spot with a respectable $51 million, and Get Smart stayed strong in the third spot earning $20 million over the weekend.

While most had adorable robots on the brain this weekend, some were still looking for some big panda fun and kept Kung Fu Panda going strong at No. 4, beating The Incredible Hulk which landed in the fifth spot.

yeah, I took several of my son's friends (all 6 year olds) and they loved it! I was worried because of the lack of dialogue for the fist 30-45 minutes. They didn't get restless at all. So cute and lots of messages to discuss later on, too Eye-wink Adults will love this as well. So glad we went this weekend!

I think Wall-E undeperformed, it was touted to become disney/pixar biggest movie and to make US$ 71 but it did not! It made only US$ 62.5, while Wanted overperformed, projected only to do US$ 40 but made more than US$ 51, and was playing in 811 less theaters than Wall-e and has an R rating.

The success of Wanted is more amazing considering it was made for US$ 75m only and Wanted's cost was US$ 180m.

Wall E was so mesmerizing! The visuals were outstanding and the I loved the use of almost silent-movie style visual humor. Not many movies these days understand the value of just letting the visuals/sound effects do the talking - show, don't tell!

wall-e was definitely cute - i was in a theater full of young families and there didn't seem to be any bored kids. the best part was all the adults laughing when atari's pong came on, and one little boy goes, "Daddy why are you laughing?" because he didn't know what that was. haha good stuff

Wall E was an extremely good movie. I don't know that I would call it 'cute' as it had some pretty blatent social commentary. But, it did have a nice sappy "it will all be okay" ending so I guess that is cute!

    I loved the hand-holding!!

I can't wait to see Wall E. My kids saw Kung Fu Panda this weekend instead. Avoided the huge crowds and all. Smiling

Wall E was amazing!!! I went through like every range of emotion during the relatively short movie - and I also Loved the "silent" cartoon aspect of it at the begining. Tooooooooo cute Smiling

Wall-E was amazing. I was surprised by how interesting it was despite the lack of dialogue, but it did raise a lot of heavy issues that I thought were really important but also really strange for a "kids" movie.

I saw Wall-E AND Wanted this weekend. Both were fantastic. Wall-E is now probably my favorite Pixar movie. I am never one to watch action movies, I didn't even want to see Wanted even though I am a huge James McAvoy fan, but after seeing previews over and over again I went and saw Wanted. I was definitely surprised on how much I liked it. The story was great and the acting was even better.

Anyway, in Wall-E the simplicity of romance in the story is what drew me to it the most, but the bigger picture was a great message. They could have had better previews in the beginning, each movie I saw a preview for looked like a complete waste of money, especially Beverly Hills Chihuahua.
