Ugly Betty Rundown: Episode 16, "Betty's Baby Bump"

Thanks to the power of wishful thinking, we all got a little bit more of what we wanted last night on Ugly Betty: Amanda and Marc. Both of them had about a gazillion one-liners and fun moments, making the episode all the more enjoyable.

When I asked yesterday which guy Betty should be with (Gio, Henry, or neither), Gio won by a landslide — and I was feeling that way, too. But! Last night was all about Henry, and even though the episode ended with some hints that he and Betty are headed for Splitsville, I was reminded of the chemistry they share. Also, who was salivating for some Ignacio Suarez cooking by the end? Must . . . eat . . . tamales . . .

Here are some more of my thoughts:

  • The show opened with Betty and Henry sharing a romantic dinner to a New Kids on the Block slow jam, "I'll be Loving You Forever" — loved it.
  • And of course Charlie interrupted them, saying she was tired and noting, "Well, my arms are so bloated from caring your child, so . . . " So evil.
  • Marc's tie-on-bare-neck look last night (pictured above) was so funny to me. I kept thinking, "But you're wearing a shirt that the tie could go over!" I love that he and Wilhelmina are planning a big media roll-out of their Meade baby that includes a stop on The View, which they never could have done if "potty mouth Rosie was still around."
  • OK, now for the serious stuff. For more of my thoughts, read more.

    • How adorable is it that Hilda has a crush? And he might like her back, maybe. And yay — he's played by the super-cute Eddie Cibrian!
  • I love that he's Justin's P.E. teacher, too, and of course Justin is failing that class. In the end the coach made a deal with Hilda that if Justin helps to choreograph the cheerleading routines, he'll pass. I wish someone offered me that deal in school!
  • Meanwhile, Daniel reacted to Renee's mental breakdown with a self-destructive and fairly trampy downward spiral. Betty had to intervene as his "unofficial, occasional therapist" and made him an appointment with a real therapist.
  • With whom he proceeded to have . . . um, hmmm. What did you get the impression those two were doing? Seems a little racy for 8 o'clock, no? No matter: She kicked him out of her office and he continued on with being a hot mess.
  • Christina's situation already makes me squeamish, but when the doctor said, "How does it feel to carry the child of a dead man?" — that's just gross.

  • Of course this sent Christina into crisis. Mark's reflection to Wilhelmina when they realized she was gone: "On the surface, our plans are rock-solid."
  • Thank goodness Amanda invited herself to Charlie's baby shower and spiced things up with amazing lines like "Why is everyone so fat at this party?"
  • So this is what makes Henry and Betty so cute: Henry declared they should be together forever, he'll make it work, long distance, blah blah. Then he pulled out a brochure of the city where they could meet and said something about the weather, and Betty said, "I love weather!" to which he replied, "I know you do!"
  • Claire Meade to Betty: "Once in Nantucket I dropped Daniel in a bucket of ice! On his head!" Then she proceeded to crack herself up at this "joke." She's my third favorite.

In the end, Charlie delivered the baby in Betty's house, and it became harder to see Betty and Henry staying together. Raise your hand if you teared up a little. And how great was Wilhelmina's sonogram reveal at the end? Diabolical — but still, this entire plan is so hilariously nonsensical. My bet is Christina keeps her baby and becomes a powerful shareholder at Mode. Whose heart went out to Betty and Henry? Who missed Gio? Discuss!

This episode was meh. Where were all the great lines? And I am so tired of the Henry/Charlie story. Let's move on to the Gio romance already.

That was so my favorite line.
"Why is everyone so fat at this party."
    Amanda is so hilarious.

Loved it...I knew Christina's husband was going to try and go behind her back too....that's horrible for her, especially since she did the whole thing for him in the first place...YAY for Henry and Betty but boo that they're pretty much done for now that the baby's around...

My heart did NOT go out to Betty and Henry, though I did feel a pang of sympathy for her as she had to watch him bond with his new family. I hate to spout cliches, but if Henry loves Betty and can't really be with her, he should set her free. Hopefully we'll see that happen next week.

Ok does anyone remember the pilot of Ugly Betty? This is TMI but in that episode Daniel was obviously getting a bj under the desk by a secretary. When i saw that happen again last night, I was like AGAIN?!? Call me a prude, but this is an 8 o'clock show...

I was so sad about the Henry/Betty thing. I thought it definitely couldn't be Henry's baby but I guess it is. So depressing =(

Btw, I looooooove Marc and Amanda too. I still don't get why Amanda wanted to go the baby shower, I guess it was just for the free food.

I loved when Wilhelmina said that her comeback would be the the best since Jesus. And I also thought that Amanda was HILARIOUS!!!!!!! Shes so good, her scenes are always the best. Sadly it seems that Henry and Betty are coming to an end. I was tired of them, but I loved how they got together way back when, so I was holding out. Definitely cried at the end when Betty realized it would never be able to work. (And mostly because I was in almost the same exact situation in real life!) I thought this was a good episode. Can't wait until next week--especially because Gio is going to kiss Betty!

I, for one, was hoping for some baby-daddy drama with Charlie's baby. Was that just dropped that it might not be Henry's baby? And why has Betty kept it a secret this whole time? You'd think she'd have a better chance with him if she told.

That being said, Gio is adorable and that coach is hot. He was always shirtless on Dirty Sexy Money. I am not ashamed to admit that I like it ; )

I actually liked this episode- I haven't been feeling UB in a while but the supporting cast is so great, and this ep highlighted them. I love Betty's Dad so much, and his talk with Daniel was sweet. I also love Hilda, so I'm happy to see her get a subplot, and loved it when she and Betty were having sister time! I also thought there were some great lines in this one- the whole "best comeback since Jesus" was too funny.

Pregnant or not, I wanted to punch Charlie in the mouth. Henry too for that matter- glad to see that storyline ending. I love Christopher Gorham, but the writers have been dragging this out for way too long.

Also, I was super happy to see on next week's preview that Marc and Wilhemina are heading back into the office! I love Marc so much, but I super love him in the Mode office setting. Hopefully we will get to see more of him and Amanda together, they crack me up.

I did tear up a little at the end when Betty realized it wouldn't work.

I don't think I go annoyed with Henry the way a lot of you did, but I am looking forward to seeing what happens with Gio. I'm still hoping for a little babydaddy drama on the finale.

Definitely looking forward to more of the coach. I haven't seen Dirty Sexy Money, but I hope they find a reason to get him shirtless soon.

I wasn't sad for henry and Betty. In fact I found them annoying with their eternally conflicted faces each time they ae within one another. Betty is very naive to think she can be Henry's priority when he's about to be a father and Henry is selfish to not let Betty go and put her in such a position.

On a whole Betty and Henry's relationship can be summed in those words: Saccharine and melodramatic with absotuley no heat.

I loved the ep...Amanda and Marc cracked me up, as usual, and Hilda was so cute with her crush!

I was wondering one thing, though...how exactly does Wilhemina think that this baby is going to get her back at Mode? I know the kid will be entitled to 1/3 of the Meade fortune, but how does that equal getting jobs for Wilhemina and Marc? Maybe their plan just seems "rock-solid" in their head, lol...

I don't know why, but Ugly Betty is the number one show I looked forward to watch every week. It's usually something that cheers me up (it used to be the Office, but I find these episodes after the strike is surprisingly unhilarious). To a lot of people, the relationship between Henry and Betty seems cliche, unrealistic, but if you guys think back the first time you fell in love, have a relationship, there's a sense of you want to be with the person forever. I think this is the first relationship Betty probably has. Now she is learning that things are not as straightforward and naive as she thinks they are, just like Willy and Marc think their plan is "rock-solid". Favourite line: "It will be the greatest comback...since Jesus". !!!

Bring on the Gio and Betty. It will have all the genuine passion, emotion, and friction lacking with Henry. Betty will grow from dealing with Gio. As for the rest of the show... could they do an episode like Mystery Science Theater with Marc & Amanda sitting in the audience cracking jokes?

I'm also bored with Henry and I'm glad that they'll be breaking up. YAY GIO!!!

    and i love hilda's crush!!!

And I ALWAYS ALWAYS love Amanda. I want more of her!

And..... is anyone else suspicious of Christina's husband? When he gave her that speech about how needing something makes people weak and they'll do anything....... did anyone else get the sneaky impression that MAYBE he was never sick to begin with and was just trying to get money from Christina? I don't trust him......

Who cares about Betty/Gio/Henry? Not me!
The dynamic duo are back in Mode - Marc and Amanda! YAY! The writers better give them more airtime for the lack of witty banter this season!

Henry is a jerk. He is the nice, well mannered, super polite jerk that a girl stays with forever, no matter what else he does, because she is fooled into thinking that being polite will make up for the jerky parts. I'm sorry, but he got Charlie preggers and has been pretty much an idiot ever since. I just think Better deserves better- and here we have Gio, who seems genuinely interested and has really gone out of his way to be there for her when Henry has dropped the ball. No contest in my book. But it was sort of sad to see that realization FINALLY hit Better- especially as it was so obvious to her dad and sister as they looked over her shoulder.

LOVE the Hilda sideplot with the gym teacher! Yea- Hilda deserves someone nice too- and who could be nicer than a gym teacher who will let a kid coreograph the cheerleading routines instead of playing softball??? Is such a man even possible! I hope this plot goes on for a bit- he is a hottie!

LOVE Amanda- just too many LOL moments to count. Charlie was also fairly funny in this episode, just for being SUCH a witch. Lots of good stuff here- I'm glad the plotline with Whilimena's sister is done- it was boring.

Ooh- I also totally think Christina's husband is a scammer. I don't think he's really sick- just trying to scam C for money and realized now how big a pie he could get. He's got shifty eyes...
