Things That make Me Cringe: Meatloaf, Tiffany Sing for GoPhone

Oh, Meatloaf. Oh, Tiffany. What happened? One minute you're engaging in some outlandish onstage dramatics or coyly crooning "I Think We're Alone Now," and the next minute you're playing. . . middle-aged suburban parents (with magic powers?) in an AT&T commercial. Sigh. It's not just that this whole ad, a family performance of Meatloaf's "Paradise By the Dashboard Light" with new lyrics about getting this teenage kid his GoPhone, is silly or way too long — though it is both those things. It's mostly just really awkward to watch.

To see what I mean (warning: cringing and blushing will probably occur), read more.

There is an art to making this type of advertising and when done well can actually revitalize a fading celeb's 15 minutes of fame. This, in contrast, is an example of how to completely END a fading celebrity's career. Yikes.

I saw this thing this morning and it was so horrific I was speechless. Meatloaf I expect this from, but Tiffany? Why oh why Tiffany?

Tiffany is supposed to have married Meatloaf in this unsavory mess? (She's the *Mom* -- seriously?)

    Miscast!

Come on, it was meant to be funny.... lighten up. It was far more entertaining than his PBS concert.

poor Tiffany. so sad. As far as Meaty's career goes, this doesn't seem that out of the ordinary. i mean, aren't these types of ads perfect for washed-up losers like him?

this video ROCKED! I have no idea who you guys think you are, but I am sucker for a good commercial for a mobile phone, especially when its Meatloaf style. He brought back the ballad in a explosive advertisement for a phone. Would anything else be apbropriate to put the 'loaf into our lives? Bottom line, when the day is done and the sun is down, and the moonlights shining through, I love seeing this commercial. Tiffany brings in a leg of raw meat, AWESOME! The kids rockn face, FANTASTIC!

I saw this on TV and immediately thought 'Wow, Meatloaf. You've sunk so low...' It probably wouldn't be that bad if he didn't sing a sell-out version of one of his classic songs in it.

Meat Loaf is far from a has been. It's a fun commercial. And If Tiffany wants to make a few dollars in commercial, I don't see why she shouldn't.

I agree, this commercial was fun and theatrical. It works because it grabbed your attention with the weird pairing and great singing. Rock out Meatloaf, I like it!
