Bad Idea of the Week: Madonna Remaking Casablanca (?!)

It's only Monday morning and already we have a Bad Idea of the Week! And yes, this is entirely rumorific right now, but the mere thought of it is so appalling to me, I had to vent.

Madonna. Remaking. Casablanca.

Of course, the remake — possibly set in a modern war zone like Iraq — would be a starring vehicle for the Queen of Pop herself. Apparently, a "source" told the Daily Mail, "Madonna is talking about taking the Ingrid Bergman role for herself, even though Bergman was in her 20s when she played Ilsa and Madonna is nearly 50." Um. Yeah. To see what else there is to say about this, read more.

Age is the least of the issues I'd have with Madonna taking the role of Ilsa in a remake of Casablanca. First and foremost I have a problem with the words "a remake of Casablanca." And in general, Madonna is simply all wrong for the part. Ilsa (Bergman) had that sweet, vulnerable face,] and a gentleness to her that I don't quite see Madonna achieving.

Again, this is totally just a rumor right now. But if it is true, it annoys me to think that just because Madonna wishes to reclaim some credibility in the movie world, she has to go after one of the most — if not the most — well-loved classic films of all time.

If this is true, I . . . I don't even have the words. I really don't. But maybe you do? What do you think about this idea?

Every week there is talk about another remake. Why this movie, it is one of the classics and my favorite. I hope it's a no on Mad's part but I doubt that. Every movie she does seems to be bad excepy Who's that Girl - yea I am sad and I know I loved her in the 80s.

Definitely one of the worst ideas yet. "A remake of Casablanca" are chilling words, indeed.

omg NO lol Casablanca is one of my favs! first off in general the "a remake of casablanca" is a horrible idea- but with madonna? god no. she's proven the only role she could ever do was evita- she should just call it a day and go sing her pop songs. please let this never get off the ground!

I am never a fan of a remake of a classic, whether it's a movie or a book or whatever. Some things are just better left untouched. I really hope this is just a rumor with absolutely no truth to it.

Okay, as much as this pains me, and it really, truly does, this is definitely a bad idea. OOORRR, maybe it's such a bad idea that it'll be amazing. Perhaps the next Showgirls?

Ingrid Bergman was fabulous and i really love this movie. I do not think that to remake a classic is good idea. No one would play this role better than Bergman .

Yeah. And right after that, she's going to direct Whitney Houston, playing Scarlett O'Hara, in the remake of Gone With The Wind. Some things should NOT be done.

This is just a rumour. People like to ruin Madonna and make fun of her that they created this rumour. In fact, they're jealous and they can't accept that a very extremely successful and talented woman close to 50 is still making a Buzz.
Long Live The Queen Of Pop!!!!
Watch out for her interview in Vanity Fair and her upcoming album!!!!

Oh please...NO. Don't mess with this classic. Remember when Madonna tried a "Swept Away" remake? I don't want to see this happen with one of my favorites.

Ugh...first of all, Ingrid Bergman was a true beauty...Madonna is not., secondly, Ingrid could act, Madonna cannot. I certainly hope this is only a rumour because a lot of time and money is going to be wasted and lost on a film that will certainly flop (as have the majority of Madonna's films)...money that could be used for charitable causes...

sometimes I wish Madonna would just get lost...

I SIGNED INTO THIS SITE JUST SO I CAN SAY THAT MADONNA WILL GO DOWN AS THE WORST PERSON IN THE HISTORY IN THE WORLD IF SHE DOES THIS. LEAVE THIS MASTERPIECE ALONE!!!! IT IS SAD ENOUGH THAT ALL MOVIES NOW ARE REMAKES OR ADAPTATIONS, BUT ADDING MADONNA TO ONE OF THE GREATEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME IN SAC-RELIGIOUS IN MY OPINION, SHAME ON ANY PRODUCTION COMPANY OR FILM-MAKER THAT CHOSES TO UNDER TAKE THIS PROJECT. SHAME ON OUR SOCIETY FOR ALLOWING A TALENTLESS WOMAN TO GET AWAY WITH MAKING "MUSIC" AND "MOVIES" FOR SO LONG. SHAME ON THE WORLD....I have no ideal why I just wrote in all caps but ok.

I'm surprised it isn't being rewritten with Madonna doing the role of Rick. Hasn't almost every movie Madonna made been a flop? What would an American be doing running a bar in a war zone like Iraq, LOL maybe it's will be a comedy. When will Hollywood learn to stop trying to remake classics.

Rumor or not, I suppose if a remake would be done, there is not much we can do to stop it, but for heaven's sake, at least realize that the only person who could pull it off, even at her age, is her daughter Isabella Rossellini. I am a fan of Madonna, and whole heartedly agree she would never pull the part.

NO PLEASE NO!!!!! This is one of her stupidest ideas yet. She is a total F***ing moron. She can't act and she not at all pretty. Although I prefer "The Big Sleep" with Bogart and Bacall over Casablanca its still one of my top films so please don't kill another classic.

Great idea. That picture needs modernizing. Way out of date.

So in the end, leave Madonna bleeding on the ground, while John Travolta and Bruce Willis get on the plane together.

Jeeez, NOTHING but negativity.. Where are you people when Will Ferrell and Jack Black are making movies? Considering the fact that so much of the stuff Hollywood makes is garbage to begin with, why NOT do a Casablanca remake? And yes, Casablanca IS one of my favorites. Here's a tip; if you don't like the idea, don't go see the movie, but try not to appoint yourself up as Cinematic Dictator For Life. The "public outcry" will be determined in box office sales, and the public has certainly shelled out millions for worse ideas....

All I can say is Sa-weet! Maybe if that goes well, she can redo African Queen, and the Maltese Falcon for the TRIFECTA! But ONLY ONLY ONLY if they get Owen Wilson to play Bogart!

I love Madonna. Or I should say, I love Madonna's music. Although she has done a few films that I enjoy, she does not have the talent to take on a monster like this. If Madonna remade Casablanca for herself, she would be commiting career suicide. I don't think even Madonna is so sure of herself to do something as ballsy as this.

That's the worst idea of all time! A) Madonna cannot act (9 times out of 10) B) NEVER remake such a classic!! C) Madonna cannot act

She should direct and keep making awesome music!

It just wrong anyway you look at to remake the all time classic "Casablanca". I wrote more papers over this flim, charaters and actors then I can count in College. You can't remake the magic or chemisty of those 2 actors or charaters. It untouchable!!! I

Speaking of Rick, who would endanger his career by taking the part, in the super-turkey this would be?? You couldn't use an unknown to re-do Bogart's role, and nobody with enough talent would dare stick his neck out.

Plus, you couldn't just re-use the original script. So, very sorry, but there is *no* way the new script would not look like crap by comparison.

So -- the screenplay and the acting would have to fall well short of the original. Let's hope nobody is stupid enough to bankroll this.

Modanna should stick to issues within her genre - you know smut and trash. If she's so hell bent on doing a movie re-maike, maybe she should consider the role of "Jane" in "Tarzan of the Apes." Not only could she run around in mother nature scantilly dressed (or even undressed to whatever degree she'd choose, but she could REALLY make her image and impact by "getting it on" with a monkey. Just think of how graphic and detailed she & the monkey could really be - a real classic suitable for Madonna!

Not one for commenting much about such rumors, but this is the second such rumor about a Casablanca remake in the last few months. Is there something in the air? I just happened to rewatch what is one of my favorites, and a true classic in every sense, again over the weekend, and either this is pure rumor or Madonna's ego is running amok. It's a day early for an April Fool's joke, but who knows? The thought that someone could improve on perfection is a ridiculous notion. Why not try to repaint "A Starry Night?" Of course, at least one remake was tried when Warner Bros. Television tried to redo the movie for the small screen in the early 1960s,and starring David Soul as Rick no less. Needless to say it didn't work. Leave it alone.

Madonna makes terrible movies!! However, she's not bad at writing children's books. Maybe she should write a children's book about the movie. She could call it 'Casablankie'.
