Separated at Birth: Lipstick Jungle and Cashmere Mafia

A week from tonight, the Cashmere Mafia vs. Lipstick Jungle battle finally kicks into real gear when Lipstick airs its premiere episode. OK, so it's not as much of a throwdown as I once hoped: Cashmere hasn't been looking so hot in the ratings, and thanks to the strike, the shows will only overlap for three weeks.

Still, now that I've seen two episodes of Lipstick and four of Cashmere, I can't let the opportunity pass to compare and contrast the similarly named shows. Still confused about which one came from a book (that would be Lipstick) and which one got costume designer Patricia Field (that's Cashmere)? Here's a breakdown of their differences — some serious, some frivolous, just like the shows themselves.

THANK YOU for having the comaprison chart - i've been having the toughest time trying to get all the characters down. the show has gotten better though - i kind of like it and i'm sad that it wasn't on last night

as for lipstick jungle - i'm SUPER thrilled that it starts next week. the book was great - and even though they don't have the stylist from SATC - they seem to be doing ok. (from the trailers)

Looking forward to watching Lipstick Jungle. I just haven't gotten into Cashmere Mafia at all, so I'm hoping that Lipstick Jungle is better.

I'm not that impressed with the costumes on CM...so that is definitely not a deciding factor in my wanting to watch it.

I have never understood the absolute fanatic fascination with Sex and the City...these shows seem to have a little more substance instead of just sex sex sex...but nothing to get that excited over.

I cannot place my finger on what is missing with these shows, maybe it's heart or relatability or realism or humor...I just don't know...but they're just not winning me over.

i agree - i'm not that impressed with the costumes on CM as well... they look way over dramatic and they're trying to hard. In sex and the city -it never looked that way for me

I don't think I'm going to be into Listick Jungle, I hate Brooke Sheilds.
And so far I think CM has been pretty good, but we'll see..

I love CM....I am not a fan of Brooke Shields so it would be hard for me to care about anything that she is doing. And Kim what's her name is not very convincing as a fashion power diva. I just don't think LJ will be for me. I love Lucy Liu and I think an implausible as CM may be, who cares, you watch TV to escape, or atleast I do.

Oh, I hope "Cashmere Mafia" gets picked up for multiple seasons! I don't know if I'll watch "Lipstick Jungle" because it just doesn't look as appealing to me.

i think for some reason there is much comparison bet. lipstick and cashemre. well. cashmere is based or somewhat copied LIPSTICK JUNGLE book wrote by candace bushnel from SEX AND THE CITY (AUTHOR).
Now. candace has more in-depth understanding of women relationship on business, relationship, family and affairs...and she is working very closely with LIPSTICK JUNGLE. in terms of fashion look LIPSTICK is more low key (and that will get more women watching) bec. the show is in tune with what some women really goes through in their lives. LIPSTICK JUNGLE is a sure thing not to be missed. actors are more real in portraying womens lives. they have more dimension. they are great actors... LIPSTICK JUNGLE is GREAT SHOW NOT TO BE MISSED. it's more realistic to relate to then the cashmere mafia women.

Well, so far I've really enjoyed Cashmere Mafia....

and I tried watching the first episode of Lipstick Jungle.......... And I couldn't even finish it. I just did not get into it at all. I'll try watching it again when it airs, but I don't know if I'll enjoy it as much. The characters didn't really grab my attention.

wow it's going to be a battle to the death with these 2 shows Sticking out tongue
though i must say that i do feel a little bad for the both of them who have satc to live up to. still, i doubt either will be able to.

so far, i've found cashmere mafia enjoyable, but only as eye candy. the acting and everything that follows is mediocre and unbelievable.
i saw the commerical to lipstick and it seems more promising :] so hopefully i'll have a new fave show to watch Laughing out loud

i think we may only think that CM is trying "too hard" cuz we've been seeing Patty's work, and we know her look now. when she first bursted onto the scene w/ SATC, it was new to us; it was fresh.
she still does a good job, but we just know what to expect from her now.

i give lucy liu credit for carrying off those looks. so far, i like CM.

i'll see how i feel about LJ. i really don't care for brooke's face, and LJ doesn't seem to be as glamorous as CM.

i'm looking forward to seeing lindsay price though. yay former 90210 star!

I have watched Cashmere Mafia and it's pretty enjoyable. I think with this writer's strike going on, shows air pretty inconsistently so I guess I'll be able to watch both series.

Both shows are pathetic copies of Sex and the City. The women's friendships are not believable compared to the bonds of the original 4, the ones we'll get to see once again this May, thank god!

In Lipstick Jungle, Brooke Shields plays a ditzy super-powered exec (how often do you see that in real life?) with an insecure husband -- that's a new take -- and the actress who plays Victory Ford is a major major annoyance. The only one with a modicum of appeal is Nico... whose husband is no longer interested in her. Why did she have to have a pathetic story too?

As for the Cashmere women, frankly I found them more likeable and the scripting less annoying, but again, there are nothing compared to Charlotte, Miranda, Samantha and even Carrie, who was far from my favorite character on the show. Let's hope she's grown up a bit in The Movie.

If you're going to imitate yourself, don't do it in duplicate, and please! do it better

hands down, 100% Cashmere!! The show has a better storyline and better characters. I found the women in LJ a little too sappy and slightly weak considering their characters were supposed New York power-women, and overall felt a little disappointed. I love Candace Bushnell, and I read the book a while ago and anticipated what the LJ show would be like, but I don't think the casting did the script justice - I guess I just expected a little more strength and wit...like CM gives.

I also read that LJ had far better ratings then CM which makes me a little sad, cause I really want to see CM around for a few seasons.

well lipstick i think is more in tune with a lot of women. simple fashion, great actors, a little fun and sexy...it's nice. nothing shocking like some clothes from the other new show alike. for me Satc is history and it was great. this show is a great one. so different from the first book. along the way. i am sure...it will show more of the thress character their past early lives based on the book. its interesting.
